Learning curve

Sitting in the xlr in Big Timber, Mt on the way home from our South Dakota trip. What a blast, and what a great learning experience.

First: This having full hook ups is pretty sweet. Only boondocked before this trip.

Second: Have a couple questions...

1: Is there an upgrade for the faucets (kitchen and bath). The stock ones are junk and the cold water handle snapped off with no excess effort at all. Do house hold faucets work in the trailer sinks?

2: the shower is for short people. Ok not a question, just a statement.

3: what is the expected normal temp for the tranny? How hot is too hot? Mine has gotten up around 185 a few times on long steep hills. Cant find an easy answer in the owners manual.

Yup, home fixtures can work. Can't help ya' with the shower...
185 is a good temp for a tranny.

Most showers have a skylight above them and it is higher than the ceiling height. What I did in my previous camper is add an adjustable shower arm and raised the shower head up into the skylight area. This put the shower head above my head. Of course, if you are 6'9", you are SOL! I'm only 5'10", so it worked well for me. The arm on the link below is a bit expensive. They also have one for about $13.00.

Oh, one other thing...before traveling, I always loosened it and let it hang straight down and retighten. I always figured that bumpy roads would force it down anyway. I don't know if that would happen, but I'm always kinda anal!

I believe the tranny temps should be around 100° above ambient temp where you are. Example -at 85° where your at, thus tranny temp should be around the 185° area.
- I like it to stay around 200 or below, on occasion maybe a hair above 200
- I would be concerned if it got above the 230-235 area.

My tranny temp stays around 195 towing in hot weather. Don't recall going above 200. And full hookups do make it nice. We are heading for a campground that has full hook up with cable and phone!. I have never had that before.

On the tranny temp, the cooler the better.
I put an extra cooler on our truck, and it never goes above 160. May be unnecessary, but it makes me feel better.

I have an 06 30 f Cherokee that I changed all of the faucets it the factory ones squeeked so bad when you used them I bought a nice kitchen and bath faucet at our local menards and it took mabey 10 mins to change each one and boy was it worth it we even have a little more pressure

Home safe and sound yesterday. Today went to Ace and got basic home faucets for kitchen and bath. Took 20 min to change both. Mucho better. Still thinking about what to do with the shower.

On a side note i took my lp tanks into town and had them filled since i was sure they must be getting low. One took 3 gal the other was still full! Used the electric and gas on hot water camping, never had to use the furnace ( first time for that) and only had fridge on gas in between stops. Did use the tv for the first time. Hooked my sons dvd player up when it was raining one day. I dont even have tv at home so we just never watch it.

Next projects: new toilet seat. Stock one is worthless.

Are there any secrets to hanging hardware on the walls of an xlr as they are not classic stud structure?
