with an awning and you have a choice, would you park so that the awning would be on the east side or west side? is morning shade more preferable than afternoon....my awning just comes out with no choice of lowering, so as the sun goes down I can just see it beaming in when it gets low enough [but I guess you can buy add ons that hang down.] .
Being from a northern state, it really doesn't matter. BUT when we snowbird to southern Florida in the winter it's a different story.
Our site in Florida has the awning on the West side. Even with a sunscreen it gets way to hot to sit under the awning in the afternoon. The choice lots there have the awnings on the East side.
When it's over 80 outside with the sun shinning, my recommendation is to have your awning on the East side.

I would go West...since outside ambient temp is higher in the afternoon. The camper is going to get hotter as the day goes on due to higher outside temp and the added sun exposure from the West. You can mitigate that somewhat by having less direct sun exposure on the camper in the afternoon.
I also think it depends on whether you are trying to keep the inside camper temp down, or just trying to find a way to more comfortably sit outside under the awning. I would agree that sitting outside on a hot day is more enjoyable in the morning with an East facing awning than it would be in the afternoon with a West facing awning.
