Hmm. I tried to turn them off but they didn't move off. Maybe I'll try it again. I'm using a somewhat sensitive device that cuts across personal and business. So I don't like the watchful eyes grabbing something. And no it's not porn but data miners are everywhere now.

we have a mifi through our phone carrier Verizon. the reason we went with it was to have a secure network in the trailer. we can run up to 10 devises off of the mifi that is password protected. the signal is better than a hot spot. you can also install an exterior antenna but we have not needed to. I am an insurance adjuster and need good connection wherever we are. I have been in areas by phone has little or no bars but the mifi works.

If you click on it, a window will open. Scroll to the bottom and click turn off.

Beware.

Turning off those certificates will cause some of your apps to stop working

Actually, after doing some research on foxfi, I came across an explanation of the certificates. These are an approved list from Google built into the phone. If it's on the list google has certified it. Everything foxfi does is encrypted. The warning was misleading and tech geeks showed why. It was poorly worded and gave users bad vibes. But otherwise was merely bringing up the list of approved sites. That mad me feel better, by alot. I won't be using it except at the campground this summer for email and Web searches. Just like a mobile hotspot. I know it will uses data as it stream but that phone has an unlimited plan and I won't be using that much per month. Thanks for the comments on this Tim. Didn't even knew it existed.

Mifi

We've been retired for 10 yrs and have used Verizon Mifi Jetpack for all that time. Love going down the road with access to iPad, etc. Never a problem. 99% coverage. Could use smartphone for hotspot but drains phone battery. We don't stream. But everything else. Start with less data plan then increase if need be. Could try Walmart Mifi hotspot first if you want. We have the XL plan. 16 Gb. After that it just slows to 3 gb speed unlimited. Rolls over any leftover data to next month. Good luck

We use a MiFi on Verizon with our 20gig phone plan. I gave up on the CC Wifi. One thing to also remember, at least for us, is the shut off my auto backup plan. I take a lot of photos and they take up gigs of space and would kill my data plan if allowed to auto backup.

I also made my MiFi connected "metered" on my Windows 10 laptop. With the basic Windows 10 they took away the ability to easily keep their updates from auto downloading (and installing). By forcing the connection as metered (sometimes the computer does this automatically) it keeps the computer from auto downloading updates. This will also kill your data if the computer updates unknowingly.

There have been some good suggestions on this thread.
We use a MiFi device we purchased from AT&T about four years ago. For us, it works great. It's an add-on device to our cell plan and costs us $10 per month. We use it to connect both our laptops when we're traveling and so far, we're very happy with it. We have actually connected to the Internet using the MiFi when our cell phone signal is too weak to get Internet, so for some reason it must pick up more signal. The first year that we took a winter trip, I used WiFi at a campground and ended up with malware. Thank goodness I have good friend who is an IT expert. Bottom line ... we don't use public WiFi any longer and love our MiFi!
