Another vote for a Thermacell. I also use one sitting in my deer stand out in the swamp and the skeeters stay far away...

You've got to explain that "handle". I'm curious.

Could be. As far as military skills go. but, he's being rather elusive. If he does anything like I did, I fully understand.

Let's just say the two terms go together.

For years I have kept a quart bottle of vinegar in the garage and in the work shop to use on mosquito bites. Just stick my finger in the bottle and rub some vinegar on the bite area. Will stop the itch and swelling very quickly. Kids will forget about scratching the bite in a few minutes.

My oldest son is horribly allergic to mosquito bites. They create a huge hard pone on him much like a bad spider bite.

When he was young I gave him garlic or yeast tablets. Skeeters hate the taste/smell of that in your blood.

Sounds strange but try Preparation H. Reduces swelling and stops the itching. I don't think you need the applicator

OMG! I literally am LMAO here! You reminded me of something that happened to my ex FIL (G*d rest his grumpy old soul) . He got up one morning and instead of grabbing the toothpaste he grabbed the Preparation H.

I'm not sure if the Preparation H caused it, or his curmudgeon attitude but he had a "trout pout" all day!

Off topic, but friends who camp with us regularly taught me something this past trip about sunburn.

Due to a neck injury I have an area on the base of my skull down to shoulder level that is totally numb....didn't realize it was sunburning bad this past weekend. Didn't help that I'd gotten a *short* haircut on Friday...that area was very pale to begin with.

Splash vinegar on it while standing in the shower, wait a couple of minutes and shower as usual. BURN GONE!

I hate spraying myself, but also hate bites (allergic).
So many gizmos on the market, wondered what folks found that actually works. Essentially, we try and fog if we're going to hang around in the evening, and...spray ourselves when necessary, but...I hate it!
I also am alergic to spider and mosquito bites. I use two things simultaneously that work pretty well--- a nontoxic spray which has lemongrass oil, peppermint and garlic oil as the active ingredients--- very refreshing--- dogs love it----and a thermacell unit--- which butane burns a repellent pad. Plus----I have learned to stay inside my screen room when the bugs are out. I still get bit, but at least I am not totally covered with welts. The spray ánd the Thermacell are available at BassPro.

I guess I would put up with some inconvenience and use a 100% DEET spray. The mosquitoes are more than a nuisance. We've had several cases of West Nile Virus infections primarily in Northern Colorado. There is at least one case of encephalitis and, I believe a couple of deaths. I try to spray whenever outside, particularly in the morning and evening.
