Murphy Bed
We bought the Queen bed extension from CW. Fits snugly in the space. Place under the pillow straps when folding the bed.

I guess I am lucky again. In my camper, there is only a 2¼" gap between the mattress base and the bulkhead. It would take a pretty thin pillow to fall down there.

What solutions have ye found to correct this vexing issue?

This question has been asked ever since the Murphy Bed first showed up in a camper, ... and there are as many answers as there are MBs, ... so, I'll enter our solution, ... DW made two large tube pillows, actually her first attempt was one longER pillow and since it was stuffed with all her sewing scraps and other assorted stuff, it was a little too awkward to work with, ... she made two out of the one, and they work great, ... plus, an added bonus of them is they are also used as head rest on the sofa to cover the gap between the sofa and bed when it is up, . items that serve double duty in a camper are always appreciated, ... we cover the "sofa head rests" with two large colorful beach towels that also serve as cover for an afternoon nap on the sofa, ... the pics tell the story, ...
using pillows and in this way, it actually adds about 5" to the length of the mattress

Added Back Rest
Our goal in eliminating the gap was to increase leisure options. We added a backboard (plywood queen sized long and 18" wide) connected to the bed with a piano hinge and resting against the wall (when bed is down) at an angle. We padded that and we can sit up in bed while drinking coffee and watching TV. It folds against the bed (held by the straps) when the bed is raised.
We didn't want more pillows, tubes or stuffing taking up space. More room for the dog.

Not at all! We don't have kids, so when people ask, we'll have to say, "We did. Lost 'em in Murphy Land. Very sad and we don't want to talk about it...."

Wow, I really like that. Is the base made of wood and if so, what size did you use? What a great idea!

Back from our very first trip, Gettysburg. Great time. Before I left, I went to Walmart and Kohls department store here in NJ. Nobody sells those wedge pillows, couldn't believe it. And nobody sells those 'body pillows' I did find a body pillow with a fleecy microfiber like cover at Walmart for 13 bucks, and it worked fine after a vacuumed the crap out of it to keep it from shedding linty fibers. No pillows falling down the crack this time, but I like the wedge pillow idea. Some of the other solutions offered up were great, but I didn't feel getting that fancy.
