My new water transfer system

Because I get tired of hauling 5 gallon containers back to the TT-I came up with this idea. It's sort of fashioned off my 4 wheeler lawn sprayer-but sanitary.
26 gal. fresh water tank-12 volt sure flo pump.I have a front frame hitch on my truck with a cargo basket and that's where I'll put this.I'll load it at the camp fresh water site and then deliver and pump it into the fresh tank.

I don't have such a large portable FW tank - just a 5gal - but I did read a suggestion here about rigging an RV pump to pump it into the RV FW tank inlet. While I'm pretty economical with the shower, my DW is not and our favorite provincial campgrounds only have (at best) an unthreaded communal hydrant that is not always in range of my 100' of FW hose and Water Thief.

I've tried (and mostly always failed) to pour a 5gal into a funnel in the FW inlet but never thought of the pump idea before (naturally dumb, I suppose). I just so happen to have a good used RV water pump because I replaced the 'sick water buffalo' sounding pump in my old TT with a VSD model (the pump in the new 5er is so quiet I don't have to do that again).

I don't mind hauling the 5gal several times but it will now be more satisfying when more of it ends up in the camper than on the ground.

P.S. I have a 35gal tote-along that I put in the TV and pump into with a Flo-jet (some of the dump stations are a long ways away) so I don't overflow the holding tanks.

I use a 5.5 gal Reliance Rhino Pak to add fresh water. It has a spout that fits neatly into the water port on my 21 FBRS. It empties in seconds with minimal water loss. If you decide to continue the old fashioned way, you might give it a try.

How's this setup? I made it as a transfer pump and a backup water pump.

Why not get an adapter to connect a hose to your outdoor shower. Then use your antifreeze inlet to pump the water from the portable tank through your outdoor shower into the FW tank.

I use a cheap 12v transfer pump and I have a 50 gallon water tank in the back of my truck.

After a similar experience to Dave's, trying to pour from a collapsible 5 gal to the fresh water fill, I looked through these forums and ended up going with this:

Self-Priming Drill Pump | Princess Auto

I have yet to try it out since I've managed to either make it through the weekend on a single tank or I've had full hookups, but it should do the trick for under $10.

I see another princess auto shopper, I use this pump, but waited till it was on sale.
12V Marine Utility Pump | Princess Auto

And for our neighbors to our south I know Harbor freight has something very similar.

Siphon

As I've gotten older I've had to had to work smarter instead of harder. When it comes to transferring water to my TT I use 6 gal green water jugs from Walmart. I set the full jug on the top of the side of my TV bed, put one of a water hose in the jug, and the other end in the fresh water inlet of my TT and let siphon/gravity do the rest. I know everyone's setup is different but this works for me.
