Navigation system

Hello,
We are heading out of Iowa in January for 3 months down south pulling a TT. What are the best navigation systems available for us RVers?

Seems people like the Garmin RV 770, but I read terrible reviews on both Amazon and eBay.

I have Waze and sort of like it, but do not trust it. I also want to get my navigation OFF my cell phone.

Any good ideas?

Thanks

I just bought a newer model Garmin with a larger screen at BJ's wholesale. My TT is not unusually high or long, so I didn't bother getting any special RV model.

I have the rand McNally rv gps, you put all your info in it and height of camper. I like it because it tells me what roads to stay on for my trip and ones that have low bridges to stay away from

I use Rand McNally RV GPS. That system combined with the RV Trip Wizard enables me to plan my route, fuel stops and campgrounds and then transfer that data into my GPS. I know where I'm headed because I planned the trip.

Wish Google Maps had an RV function....or do they and I'm missing it ? With my 2019 Colorado and the Android Auto I can dump my maps on my phone right to the truck and big screen on dash.

I have android auto but it will never replace my Garmin GPS.
in have a Garmin DriveSmart 65 and love it. (I so sometimes put WASE up on android auto)

My requirements were
1: Lifetime maps
2: Red light and speed camera warnings
3: Lane assist with junction view (displays junction signs and which lane you should be in when near exit)

Nice to have:
a: Speed limit indicator (displays speed limit for most major roads in the U.S.
b: Garmin real directions (turn left after McDonald)

Not even on my list is Bridge height info. it guess it would be nice to have, but not willing to give Garmin, or 1-3 above.

But with any GPS you want to VERIFY THE ROUTE BEFORE DRIVING IT.
some times GPS will route you down "unimproved roads" which can put you way off route where you can get stuck and even die.

the part I left out is I use Garmin Basecamp for designing my routes with all the vias (gas stops) on my PC, then transfer it to my GPS (I have several)

I do this after a long history of designing motorcycle routes where I dictate the exact road to turn on so riders can follow my route. one was 1000 miles long.

and sometimes I have been seen ruining 2 garmin GPS going plus Google maps on the Android Auto with waze running in background of android auto so the audio comes out about stuff/cops on the road.

excessive, I know, but its sort of a hobby to me.

I used to run a motorcycle with a notebook in the luggage with a 9" USB monitor on the bars, remote touch pad on the tank, audio hooked to helmet, so I could use Delmore desktop software as a GPS with my PN40. I switched to Garmin when they got better with there devices and software. but to me the Delmore software was teh best out there. (garmin even bought Delorme)

I think my first a box from delorme around 1995.

I use the Rand McNally's but I always check the route with the Motor Carrier'a map book to confirm heights. It is not perfect and once in a while it tries to send you where you don't want to go. Good Luck

Ended up buying 770

Well I ended up purchasing the Garmin RV 770. It’s a nice peace of mine entering my TT dimensions and weight. To stop me from hitting a low overpass is worth it’s weight in gold.
But just like any GSP, it has sent us down strange ways that I have actually needed to back out of. Dirt road, cow pasture, etc. This has happened twice now in our 2,500 miles of travel. Maybe not bad odds. My human navigator screws up once in awhile too! Haha

I would recommend this GPS.

If you are forced to turn around your not sanity checking your route first.

Yup you’re right. Both times were last minute decisions. Finding the closest Loves to boondock. And trying to find a gas station that would let us fill our fresh water tank. Both of these were last minute. Not allowing us time to double check.
