Need ideas from the creative minds

The dog will perch his front paws on the armrest and inadvertently operate (open) the power window. Any ideas for covering the switch and still having it accessible to human passengers? It's in an E450 cab (Forester). Thanks in advance.Click image for larger version

If it's the passenger side, doesn't the drivers have a lock out control?

Maybe cut a piece of foam/styrofoam the shape of the arm rest. Cut out the bottom side to match the switches, then use some Gorilla Glue to attach another piece that will fit into the hole used for pulling the door shut, to hold the pad in place. Then glue a thin piece of wood, metal, or Plexiglas over it.

Maybe make something like a tray over the switches that will hang from the window channel like a cup holder. Just make sure you use something to protect the door panel.

Or simply disconnect the switches on that side.

Put in your own lock out switch. Tap into ground wires and mount a on/off rocker switch in the side of door panel. Although I would more concerned for the door locks. Be careful have a good back up plan. My buddy's dog locked doors during hitching. The truck was running (thank goodness as it was hot) and the Mrs.' keys was also in truck!

Velcro and Goop! My Silverado has a lock-out switch which we use when we have our cat onboard. He loves to stand on the armrest when we stop. We learned the hard way. Unfortunately, my radar detector is wired to the same circuit and sometimes I forget to turn it back on.
We use the velcro and Goop on the car when he travels with us in it.

41ford: I simplified it a lot, but your basic idea worked - styrofoam in the door handle with a cover piece. The first prototype isn't very pretty, but it's functional. The styrofoam is cut from a piece of packing material out of a Click image for larger version

That's simple and what I had in mind. I just noticed the window switch is recessed, so that makes it easier too.

I joined this forum a few weeks ago and sure have learned a lot from others, hope I can share my experiences.

Today on here, I learned what a "Johnny Chock" is.

There is a product I have that is a "door shield." It is a nylon door cover with plastic inserts that slides into the window to hold it in place. These covers are used to keep dogs from damaging doors but they are large enough to cover the armrest, also. Autosportscatalogue.com carries them.
