Hi all, I just purchased a Rockwood 8311ws.
I know the topic of slide toppers has been beat to death but searching for an answer to my question has been unsuccessful. Please bear with me on the subject another time again...
I never used slide toppers/covers in the past as I had hybrids with very small slides. I never had rain leak issues and they were simple to clean debris off before closing it up. However, this 8311ws is much taller with 3 wide slides. I am going to install toppers for sure but I just want to decide which style I'll be most satisfied with.
I'd like to know your opinions and experiences with the two styles of slide covers you all prefer. I'm talking about when you have the slide out and the topper covering it, not about when it is in for travel. Carefree and Dometic seem to push their toppers that have a protective cover/wind deflector guard around the roller. Though they also have more basic styles that do not. It seems to me with those more expensive guarded rollers when closing the slide debris could more easily get caught in the guard/deflector/shield rather than simply rolling off the fabric as it would with a basic non-guarded topper.
What experiences have you all had with these two types of topper and which would you now prefer?
