Along this line --- I replaced my water filter, then drained the water heater. This is what the element looked like. RV less than a year old.

Those anode rods don't take long to start looking rough. But at least is is corroding, not your elements!

While it may look a little rough that rod is still usable.
Nothing wrong with replacing it if that is what you want, I would just clean it up a bit and use it again this season.

Anode rod --- it helps to use the correct terminology. Thanks for the clarification. And for the encouragement to get further use out of it.

That's funny. I was told at Mike Thompson's RV in Santa Fe Springs, Ca. that my new motor home had a filter in the water system and there was a spare in the coach. One year later we are camping and the toilet plugs up, then the shower and faucets. I pulled the toilet connection apart and there are small plastic pieces blocking the water connection. Same with the shower and faucets. I check the filter housing and find no filter inside. I spend a portion of my day cleaning everything out and installing the "spare" filter. I was extremely upset with Mike Thompson's RV AGAIN.

Some of the filters are specific to the the housing. Columbus for example uses a housing/filter combo and only that filter will work. Great filter, no loss of pressure, pretty much does it all, giardia included and of course taste, heavy metals, chorline, sediment, yadda yadda.
