No Mice!

Has anyone tried dryer sheets to keep the mice out in the winter? With my last camper I used the smelliest dryer sheets I could find and spread them all over my camper for the winter. The mice don’t like them and your camper smells nice when you open it up for next season.

I have tried the following by themselves and together with no luck at all.

Bounce dryer sheets - covered every inch of the floor, drawers, cupboards, and under the bottoms of drawers.

100% peppermint oil from a farmer who grows and distills it - the stuff is so strong dipping a toothpick and shaking it off will take your breath away when you put in your mouth. Placed in small bowls with cotton balls as a wick. The funny thing is you will not find mice in a peppermint field but it doesn't bother shrews.

Pure Fox Urine sprayed on the blocks, stabilizers tongue jack and tires.

Mothballs, cedar moth balls - hanging from the underside in nylon stockings and scattered around on paper plates in the camper.

Fresh Cab

Whole Cloves

d-Con and other brands of mouse poison, mouse traps and sticky traps.

Filled every crevice and hole with expandable foam.

Stainless Steel scouring pads stuffed in the corners of the slide outs.

The slide outs have a in-frame slide mechanism with 3" holes through the frame. The Stop Cups don't completely cover the holes so mice can get into the enclosed underbelly. During the summer when the slides are out all season the 3" hole is totally exposed except where the 1-3/4" diameter tube goes through. I have another thread addressing this problem. See Actuator through frame holes . 95 views and nobody has an idea on what to do.

We don't have power during the winter to use ultrasonic devices. The only thing I haven't tried is eucalyptus oil. The little buggers still get in.

We tried Fresh Cab but still have mice. I filled in all the holes I could find with steel wool and put in some D con a couple weeks ago but I’m afraid the D con is like an invitation for other mice and afraid they may die and decompose inside the TT.

Scrapper has covered all the bases. Those little beggars will still find a way if they want to and you’re in their part of the country.

HOWEVER.......

There is only ONE 100% way to keep them out of your rig.....however it involves you parking your rig at the bottom of the lake!!!!!

I cover all the holes underneath with foil tape and use flexible flashing tape for around the slide out mechanism.

Hey, I never thought of that. What do you do with all the fish that take up residence in the spring?

Different folks swear by different things and everyone SWEARS theirs is the best.

Like scrapper, I've tried them ALL.
The ONLY thing that works with any consistency are traps.

I use bait stations outside the shop. 60 x 60 2 to a side. Then just inside the doors and halfway down the walls on each side I have sticky mats. Most of the time the sticky mats just have spiders but every once in a while have a stuck mouse. So far none have gotten into the motorhome or other vehicles in the shop.
I also use Fresh Cab in all the vehicles. Usually at least 2 packets per vehicle.


not foolproof but haven't had a mouse issue for quite awhile.

Live out in country so I am in their territory! Neighbor uses outside barn cats which has worked well for him but my dogs like kitties for snacks.

We used to take our 2 cats with us when we would go to the TT. The mice would drive them nuts because they could hear them but not find them.

We've just resorted to putting everything in bins and sealing them with tape. Then in the spring, sweep out the nut shells and mouse turds, wash everything down and put the stuff in the bins back into the drawers and cabinets.

Costco dryer sheet are the strongest smelling sheets.

We do the same but it doesn't help during the camping season. We are back and forth between the s&b and the TT. Anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks at home depending what's going on.

Costco dryer sheets are the only ones we haven't tried yet.

I have used Tomcat before and the mice never touched it.

We've always used Downey dryer sheets and had pretty good luck with them. Some friends of ours used generic ones and they didn't work.

We used to use Irish spring soap but the last time we did, they ate half the bar. So apparently it doesn't work anymore.
