No more burnt biscuits !

The first time using my oven I found out that it is nothing like a home oven. Checking in different forums, someone suggested placing a cooking stone on the floor of the oven. (The bottom of the oven just above the flames.) Found a pizza cooking stone at Wal-mart about 25 bucks. Placed it in the oven to try it out. Well it broke into 3 pieces as soon as it got hot but it worked like a charm ! It didn't effect it's ability to evenly distribute the heat even with it being broke !

The cheaper stones can do that if they heat up too quickly. But they do work rather well for that application.

I bought 4 square tiles from home depot (unglazed tiles), and put them in the oven too. They are cheap, I think it was just under $1 per tile. Still have to be careful and not cook things for to long in the oven.

Someone suggested using one of those air insulated baking sheets
and I'm sure that would also help.

I still haven't been brave enough to try the oven yet!

The air gapped ones work ok, but I found the over still had some serious hot spotting issues. The baking stone evened out the heat enough to make it more usable.

Instead of putting the stone on the floor of the oven, try placing it on the rack, directly under the baking sheet. Also, make sure that you preheat the stone along with the oven. So far, I have never broken one.

After some experimenting, I found a good way to store the stone in the oven while traveling. Cut four, 6" pieces from a pool noodle. Slit one side of each piece and slip them over the stone.

I couldn't find unglazed tiles in my area of Washington. Lowe's and Home Depot both looked at me as if I was crazy (DW says I am most of the time anyway so I'm used to it ). I settled on an airbake sheet that sits directly on the shelf above the burner. Made a world of difference. I found mine at Target as part of a two pack. The bigger one went into the house and the smaller one for this purpose. What a difference! Use the oven all the time with no fear now! Just be sure to preheat.

If you always remember to line the outside of whatever pan you are using in the oven, in aluminum foil, it will not burn. I use my oven all the time in our XLR!

I used an insulated cookie sheet under the pan for the cinnamon rolls and that worked great! Just think of the increase in gas mileage over a heavy pizza stone!

This was the trick I found to stop my biscuits from getting burnt on the bottom. Such an easy thing to do.

Ok ya'll are saying to wrap the OUTSIDE of the pan with the aluminum foil not to line the pan with it ??

Correct! So if you have a cookie sheet, just tear enough foil for it to fit the bottom, and then to tuck up the sides. If its muffin tins, tear a piece to fit the bottom and again up the sides of the pan. By fitting it up the sides, it holds the foil in place while you put the pan in and out of the oven, plus it protects the sides of the pan from burning what's cooking inside. Hope that helps! I make cupcakes, and they turn out perfect! Set the oven to its proper cooking temp, and be sure to begin checking at the minimal time it's to cook. (If it says to cook for 10 - 15 minutes, begin checking at 10)

Exactly! Plus you can reuse the foil for that pan, over and over!

One pic shows the foil around the sheet for biscuits, and I didn't take a pic of the foil wrapped cupcake tins, but you can see how perfect they baked up!
