I like to think of it as lazy rather than cheating

Another dumb question. How does the direction of the antenna tell you where to pick up tv stations.? I usually spy on the neighbours and point ours in the direction the majority of them have them pointed.

Most of the time where I am camped most people either have their satellite dish out watching their DTv....... or nothing at all. So that idea doesn't help me that much.

I asked this on another thread and never got an answer.....hopefully some 1 in the know will chime in on this. I have been pointing the Wingman towards the appropriate areas with good results, but would like to hear from someone that is up on this stuff.

No idea really

I would love to know the "real answer."

I have the UHF Wingman installed and point the elements in the general area I think that the station is located.
I plan on doing Leaf peeper's mod as soon as I find a circular protractor.

It makes great sense to fine tune the antenna for each station and not just try and point it "At Philadelphia" and hope for the best like I do now.

From what I saw on the Winegard site, the side opposite where it mounts points toward the signal you are trying to receive.

More confused than ever

Winegard - Wingman - Sensar DTV Upgrade

Is a video that discusses the installation. In it he BRIEFLY discusses how the signal is focused by the Wingman elements onto the UHF antenna inside the antenna head.

Seems to me the only way that can happen is if the signal hits the elements first; Then the antenna head. Not the other way around.

I looked all over and can't find my installation instructions for the durn thing. Maybe someone can dig theirs up and help out.

Found this. Absolutely no help here...

Left a Tech Support request at Winegard. No word back yet.

Well watching the video that herk7769 provided it looks like the aming is done with the side of the anntena that is away from the post and not the with either of the long shafts, so I guess I have been tring to do it wrong. I will give it a try thier way this next weekend.

Smile Asked a dumb question

I emailed Winegard and here is their reply:

From: Winegard-Mobiletech
To: lamadio
That's not a dumb question at all.

Not everyone spends years studying, working with and thinking about television reception and it is better to ask than to point the antenna away from the signal.

The elements should point AT the signal.

I like to think of it as an arrowhead. The arrow needs to be pointed at the tower to hit it.
