oven use

We have tried a few times to use the oven. Each time the bottom is burning black. We have a thermometer on the rack to figure the temp. This last try was to broil and we had the same result. Are we setting it to high despite the thermometer reading?

I've heard ovens are best performers as storage cubbies. Apparently burning as you describe is a common issue.

Go out and buy yourself one or two pizza bricks or go to Lowes and get a couple of unglazed tiles and place then in the oven. It has helped hundreds to even out the temp swings and cook things perfectly.

I was thinking of maybe putting the lid to my 10" Dutch oven in the oven in place of a tile.

I've cooked several things in my oven, never had a problem with it. I actually found myself wishing I had a gas oven in the house!

Is it missing something? My oven has a pan or plate that is over the top of the burner...

good luck,

We often use an air bake cookie sheet to help disperse the heat. Last year the DW did the Thanksgiving Dinner (I fried the turkey outside), including baking her famous, mouth watering, flakey crust apple pie. All came out just like cooking in the gas oven at the house.
