Protecting indoor stair carpet

We have ordered a new wolfpack toyhauler 5er (which will hopefully be here next week). We are usually camping in the boonies, with dirty kids and dogs. I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for protecting the carpet on the indoor stairs. I can only imagine the amount of dirt that will be on those things. No matter how many times I tell my kids to take their shoes off to use them, I know my kids, and that is not going to happen. Any ideas?

New camper, new rules. EVERYONE takes their shoes off at the door. PERIOD!
Other than that... Area rugs, stair runners and a carpet shampooer.

Applying a hand to a bottom works great. Only takes one application.

I hear ya. We tried stair runners for awhile, but those were a PITA. Taking your shoes off and on just to go in the camper is also a PITA

Now we just vacuum frequently (even when boondocking) and shampoo the carpets at least once a year. Carpet is almost 6 years old and still looks great, even with the grandkids and associated sand and mud

RVs are to enjoy, not to keep pristine

We dont use our door to the liveing area.Use ths door to the garage and shoes come off there.Since our ramp is almost always down, this goes for the dog too.

Application must cover the entire area and applied liberally.

LOL!
I regularly beat all my children when they were small; I guess that is why every weekend we are at home, they and the grandkids are all at our house for the day laughing and having fun. We were terrible parents I guess by today's standards, but I never had to go looking for them as teenagers and they knew they were loved.

when we had our 5th wheel, I bought the clear plastic runners and secured it to the carpet on the stairs. Worked great and a damp rag made clean-up real easy.

carpeted inside steps

Mine weren't carpeted they were just a finished boards. Scratches were showing in less than a month.

As you can see on lower right the risers were carpeted & treads were stained wood.

Purchased matching flooring and modified the steps.
