Pulling into your site
Hi all - First year with our new Rockwood 8293RKSS after 20+ years of tenting it. I have a difficult time judging the width of the TT with the slide out and the awning out. Makes it kind of hard for my DH to get the camper in the right spot the first time. So I cut two pieces of string - one the depth of the slide out, and the second, the depth of the awning. Now I just have to get out my strings to see if our TT will fit between trees, etc. The one for the slide out I can hold out between my arms; the one for the awning, I just lay on the ground from the side of the TT to see where the awning will be when fully extended. With more practice, I'm sure I'll be able to judge these distances better, but this works great in the mean time.

I try to use my 10 year old son as my guide...he's better at it and less repurcussions if things get, um, heated (but so far he's been really good so no need to get heated. My DW just gets frustrated at her difficulty at doing what seems like a simple task.)
I've gotten good at lining up the hitch ball by myself so that's one less 'stressor' for everyone.

The one thing I have to keep reminding my DW is that if she can not see my mirrors, I can not see her. She get a little upset with me because I will stop moving until I can see her when backing into a site.

I arrive at the site, get out and survey the situation and tell my wife where I want to park the tires. She then directs me to the area and then I get out and see if minor adjustments are required. What annoys me the most is all the other camper do-gooders who wants to come and give me directions. I politely tell them that I depend on one traffic director only,, DW. Works for us.

I pre-cut a dowel (actually an old broom handle) for exactly the distance my slide takes. I keep it in an outside compartment. It is easy to run the dowel along the side to see if it hits anything.
Even DW can do it quickly and let me know if I need to shift left or right without getting out of the cab.

I guess there is a benefit to not having slides
We still get the folks who feel that they have to help. At one place I had three different people telling me different things. Unfortunately, none of them was my wife and knew where I wanted to be.

Oh My Gosh! I haven't laughed this hard in ages! Y'all just tickle me!
I even read some of the responses to my hubby... we just rolled with laughter!
Guess it's all sooo funny because we have all been there...more than once!

I went over to a site next to me when someone was parking his unit and before I could say anything he told me to buzz off.
So, I watched him get all settled in, disconnect his trailer, put the jacks down, slides out, power hooked up, awning out and when he went to connect the sewer, it was plugged. Which was what I was going to tell him.

When my wife and I travel by plane it's almost always to a place on water. We like to pack a cooler and go sit by a boat launch. Never fails to entertain us for a while................

Sounds like my DH wrote some of these. Having to give him directions is almost grounds for divorce! I love it when another camper offers to help, and I think DH does too. He seems to accept directions from someone else much easier than he does from me, even though they probably tell him the same things; the TT gets situated much quicker with fewer temper tantrums and everyone is happy. So, fellow campers, please don't stop offering to help when someone seems to be having a difficult time getting into a spot. If they don't appreciate the offer, it's their loss.

I have a wireless camera (vison stat Mobile awerness) to help me hook up my trailer to the TV so I dont have to keep getting out of the truck and like someone said - I get out of the truck and ass the camping spot before I back in since I do not have a DW and my 5 year old isnt much help either even though she wants to help.
I had a camera I was going to mount to the bumper just for backing up but the field of view wasnt enough for what I wanted so I gave it back to my brother.
I also got a chuckle out of the some of the comments as well

It must be me but never once have someone offer to direct me in. Guess I was the entertainment for the day.
Being new at this stuff and especially going at it solo I would had welcome a few good do-ers. Now I think I would be a little more picky....does this mean I'm getting better at this?
