Running A/C

With the heat and humidity in Louisiana, I was wondering if it is beneficial or harmful to the air conditioner to have it turned on at 80 degrees all the time so that it will cycle on if it gets too hot when parked and not in use.

I don't want to wear out my AC, nor do I want to have other problems with the heat and humidity!! Which is the preferred option?

X-2 with Turbs, AC units like a furnace is designed to be run it will not hurt it.

Should be fine. Just make sure you have adequate power source. Not a 50ft extension to a 15A house outlet.

Thank you to all who replied. I will run it! We have it under a carport cover with a 30 amp plug right now. As soon as our daughter can move her rig that is sitting in the sun to her home, we will then hook up to the 50 amp.

You could add a dehumidifier... surely that will be cheaper to operate than the a/c.
The only issue I see with that is removal of the catch pan. It would have to be plumbed as to prevent overflows.

I am over here in the Houston area and I run mine all summer long. I usually
have it set on 80 F, both of the ACs. I wouldn't want to guess what the inside temp would be if I didn't.

My poor A/C is running constantly during the day even with the thermostat set at 90. Unfortunately it sits outside with no shade. I don't want to turn it off because I did once and it was so hot in there things with adhesive were coming loose and the fridge need some sort of circulation.

About 95 if it's in the shade. I'm an hour or so away from you and never run my AC...well, it's running now, but I'm going to start packing for a trip in a day or two. I keep a remote sensor for outside temp in mine and, over the last few years, I've never seen it get any hotter. I'm more concerned with humidity (the remote shows that as well) and I've never had it get above 65% when it's closed up. Granted, we take it out every two months or so, so it doesn't sit for six months at a time. When I see the humidity come up, I'll go run the AC on 80 degrees for an afternoon and cut it off.

One of those buckets of Damp Rid would probably work just as well.

I live in south TX and I have always run my A/C set at 80. No problems.
