Since buying a trailer with a power awning, I have been leery of putting the lights in the awning track. This led to using the running lights.
I made a simple pigtail with an inline fuse (10A) and a switch. I used female spade connectors because of the large size of the slots on the trailer plug. I just squeezed them a little with a pair of pliers until they fit snugly. Since I store my trailer plug under my tank cover, I just leave the pigtail plugged in the whole camping trip. When I want to turn on the running lights, I just open the access hatch and flip the switch.
Here's a picture of the pigtail...(just made from things I had around the house.)
