Satellite

So we're camping first time new camper. Have a tailgater. Can not get it to work. Apparently too many trees we are being told by dish but we have it in the roof and we have clear view to the sky but tall trees in a circle around us sporadically. Is that our prob. Appears to be nothing else wrong. We have used the tailgate before but never in a partially wooded campground. If this is the problem what are suggestions so that we can camp in the mountains and work our two tvs?

There are dish pointer applications that you can load onto your smart phone. Use the app to find were the dish needs to be pointed and make sure there is a whole in the tress and nothing is obscuring the sky view of the dish.

It does require a clear view of the south/southwest sky. Download the App Dish for my RV. It will show you where the Sat's are located. I use the Tailgater with this app. Works great for me, but trees are a problem

Although I don't have a tailgater, and have a regular dish on a tripod I can tell you that sometimes the simplest of trees can prevent you from zeroing in on the signal.

So downloaded the app even though I have to auto find your signal kind and the little x's have tree limbs in the middle but not thick trees. Still no signal

I use Dish Pointer Pro
I think I might have paid $10 for it but it sure makes things easier. It uses the phones camera with all the satellites superimposed on the live picture. You can see anything in the way.

You state that you are in a new camper. With the other camper did you connect the cable from the tailgater to the cable port on the outside of the camper? IF so, could you get reception from the tailgater into the old camper? Now, you have a new camper, so are you connecting the Tailgater to an outside cable port and NOT getting reception? I'm learning that some of the newest TV signal amplifiers will not let signals pass through from any type portable satellite systems. Bypass the outside cable port and run service from the Tailgater direct to your receiver.
