Satellite

We just pruchased a 2007 Georgetown 370TS that did not come with a satelite. Looking for information if anyone would put satellite on or purchase a portable system instead? We do not plan on watching it while moving so we were thinking non motion system. What's got us worried is a local RV dealer said he would put one on and replace the TV antenna, which we were not planning on using either. I'm not sure he's ever done this before and I don't want a leaking roof. What say you all?

Thanks in advance,

Personally I would not remove my installed local (crank up) antenna. If by
(and it will happen) some unforeseen chance you are parked under trees or do not have a good clear view of the south east sky, you may not get a signal. I have a portable satellite antenna and sometimes I have had a problem with getting a signal because of trees (located in a valley).

Purchase one of the new auto antennas that can be mounted on your access ladder on the rear, it is dome shaped, automatic and can be removed, placed on the ground to get a clear signal if need to be.

You may need to use your antenna (crank-up) to get local channels for local weather, news or programming.

I had one installed on the roof. It's a Winegard. The model we purchased is no longer available but they have a similar model now. It was a simple install. I bought it through Camping World. I have two lines in to a Tivo Unit so we record programs and can watch them if we're in an area where trees present a problem.
