Slide out and Rain

very interesting, and helpful, guess I need to add some 2x4s in the RV. I thought I needed to be level for the fridge, won't it be effected being unlevel?

That's interesting regarding all the positive comments regarding toppers. When I bought my 5er this past spring, (I custom ordered it and did not buy it off the lot) I added toppers as an option. The salesman talked me out of it by telling me they are problematic and stretch and flap after a few seasons. Are there any negative comments out there about their use? Maybe I need to have them added as an after market addition.

2) Shade on the slide out roof (thinnest insulation) aids in cooling
3) No wet leaves to remove before closing slide
4) No snow to shovel when that freak snowstorm dumps an inch at night

I agree with your assessment of the slide toppers with one small exception involving the wet leaves. Last weekend as we brought in the slide the wet leaves were sticking to the topper and rolling under as it retracted. The solution: DW stood by with a long-handled Swiffer and "mopped" them off as they went by. Just took a couple of minutes. Had to do the same thing with our patio awning, which took quite a bit longer.

Our Roo has a gutter over the dinette/sofa slide and the factory installed topper. The topper sometimes collects a puddle, but hasn't been a problem, and it keeps the leaves and the water off the slide itself.

The kitchen slide is under the awning, so it doesn't have a topper. We put that one day when stopped at a rest stop for lunch. While we were eating the sky opened up. No big deal - this has been out in plenty of rain at home with the awning retracted. Everything is sealed up.

However, bringing the slide in right after it rained brought a lot of water in on the top as we put it back in. That is where the awning or a topper is big help. With the flat top of the slide, some water is going to remain, and trying wipe it off with a towel while bringing the slide proved only somewhat effective...
