As many have already expressed, it's a matter of personal opinion/preference, but if your unit has a slide topper, you're most certainly going to shorten the life of the topper by letting it exposed to the elements continuously. I certainly wouldn't leave my main awning out all the time even if I could be certain that the wind wouldn't blow at all.
