Storing RV in FL summer

We are storing the RV in FL, using a custom cover, but would like to know any hot weather tips, to prepare it.

Ever heard of putting water in the toilet bowl and covering with saran wrap? Would this save the seal over summer time?

I would make sure to clean it completely leaving not a morsel of anything with a scent ie, cleaning products, deodorants and other hygiene items, food.

Also remove any paper or cardboard items as these can attract roaches and other bugs.

A dehumidifer is a must for a Florida summer.

Bug bomb, big bucket of Damp-Rid, remove all food, drain you fresh water tank and heater. If you had power leave vents open (max-air or similar) and put a small fan on a timer inside. I've done this on covered boats and campers and it really helps to keep the heat down inside. I just leave water in the toilet bowl.

Obvious, I know, but try to find a shady spot. I don't worry about bugs or small animals because they will die from the heat.

Cover the fridge vent on the exterior with saran wrap, etc.

If you are storing where there is electricity I would leave the ACs on set to 84 F.

We keep the unit plugged in to a regular 15amp plug so I can run the Max Air fans. I have them set to come on at 82 and go off when cooler. I also keep the ceiling fan on to keep air circulating. I have 3 large Damp Rids in the unit and check them weekly and a drain any fluid. All food out, a febreeze deodorizer on the kitchen counter as well. I also have my bug guy keep it sprayed inside and out.

Heat and humidity you have to love them!! If your vent stacks are under the cover the moisture in the tanks will not only stink to high heaven in the heat but will raise the humidity to even higher levels. I don't know how to use damp rid but our friends had a huge mess with the bucket overflowing while in storage causing a lot of floor damage. Make sure you understand how to use it and talk to others who have.
We are trying a dehumidifier with outside drain like another couple we know uses. I think that is the best if you have electricity in storage.
Also, put something under the tires.

WRT the toilet. I would forego the saran wrap. It would cause a lot of mold underneath it. I would wipe the toilet seal down with a light coating of dielectric grease or vegetable oil and leave the bowl empty.

Thetford makes a blue colored seal protector and lube. Pour a little in the toilet when you store it. It'll keep the seal from drying out and leaking.

I have a spray can of rubber seal protectant which I use on all seals including toilet keeps them soft and pliable. No problems yet.

If you can afford covered storage, not just a cover, DO IT.
RV covers don't lsst very long in South Florida. Do both of you can.

I live in South Florida and I use Damp Rid inside several places in the cabin and I do worry about small animals. They love the heat and will chew on your wires. I keep d-Con in a couple of places inside the RV frame but outside the cabin. One next to the engine and one near the rear of the camper.

We live in Orlando and keep our coach in the drive, plugged in and the AC on year round. Probably not feasible in your case, but it sure is nice to not have to worry about it. I can tell you to make sure you don't have any limbs or vines touching it at any point and to protect the cords if you do have it plugged in. Ants WILL get inside regardless if there is path for them. Also, be very careful when you get into the battery compartment at the end of the summer as the fire ants just love to nest in the areas around the warm batteries (assuming they have a trickle charge to keep them up). The UV here will kill you worse than the heat, but I would still heed what some of the others have said about keeping air flowing through the coach if at all possible. IMHO, fresh flowing humid air is much better than hot stagnant humid air.

Forgot to mention another option you may be interested in. I have no idea what the cost is, but there is a company that just relocated to Daytona Beach called Classic Coach Works. They do coach renovation, etc. Very nice folks. Their new facility has inside RV storage. Might check with them and see. Definitely better than leaving it out in the weather and there's always someone there to watch things for you.

Spray bug killer around the tires and anything else that contacts the ground.

I live in Florida year round. I put a large damp rid inside. Remove all food items. Before I park my trailer I spray Termador on the ground my trailer will be parked on. Never ever have a bug that way. I park on wood planks. Cover the wheels and put a cover on the trailer. Never have any issues. Mine sits for several months at a time. No problems with anything.

I've seen a couple comments in this thread about DeHumidifiers and wonder if anyone can recommend a good one? The smaller the better.
