I don't think there is any product to save you from a direct hit. I think it's any other type of hits. Like lightening hitting somewhere near.

PS I have one of these labs

I think FR has a new model coming out: 23mls (Meth Lab Slideout) for the hood.

Probably works better than the $60 Water filtration I paid for but have to remove!

The meth of Ben Franklin

Oh an by the way, I also can hit a one iron.
I am in awe. I can't hit a wedge 100 yards to the green. And Ben might have been on meth that day when "the loose threads of the hempen string stood erect...............and he applied his knuckle to the key" as described by Joseph Priestly in H. W. Brand's book the First American, page 202. But old Ben was nobody's fool and he got his son William to do the dangerous job of flying the "silken kite" into the storm. A few months later a Frenchman became the first French fry performing the same experiment. This may have been why little William tried to turn his dad into the British a short time later. It's similar to that Afghani sheik who was being interviewed by Barbara Walters who commended him for allowing his wife to lead the way in their long trek from the car to the cemetery they were visiting. She said his enlightened attitude allowing the woman to go first in violation of time honored Arab tradition requiring the woman to follow was heart warming to her. He had a two word reply, "Land Mines." But I agree with you. A grid surge does not compare with a direct lightening strike but instead of investing in a $300 surge protector with enough blinking lights to put the cockpit of the Starship Enterprise to shame I bought USAA. This little guy is what Ben looked like when he touched his knuckle to the hempen string. This is what the French guy looked like.

I hope this works for you ..... "I bought USAA", but after a year they do not cover the cost of a new FR and on a weekend it is areal bear to have your camper electrical system shot because of $300 and you still have 2 days left.

I have a 3170DS which is 30 amp service. I have the 50 to 30 amp pigtail so that if a 30 amp service is not available. Would it be worth getting a surge protector for 50 amp or 30 amp. Would the 30 amp protector be plugged in to the pigtail and still protect.

OK, let me say this in a better way. I even confused myself how I stated it earlier. Can I run a 50amp to 30amp pigtail (at pedestal) to a 30amp surge protector to my FR, which is 30amp?

If you are ever considering upgrading to a bigger unit, then get the 50 amp unit so you can transfer it over. It will run both 50 and 30 amp service.

Simple answer is 'Yes'. I've done this with my 30A Surge Guard.

But I mostly camp at 30A sites and only occasional use my pigtail. If you're going to mostly be at 50A sites, and if you plan to upgrade, then might as well get the 50A protector now.

Plug your 30 amp cord into it like normal.

You'll still plug in like you normally would

I think he's looking at a portable unit, not a hardwired.

With a portable 50A unit on a 30A site it'd be 30->50 pigtail, unit, 50->30 pigtail, trailer.

Hardwired it'd be no difference. Just plug in straight to 30, or pigtail from 50->30 and then plug in, depending on the site.

Missed the mention of portable unit.
I was talking hardwired version only.

Thanks for the info. I believe I got it. I also use mostly 30amp service but for some reason we could only get 50amps this last trip at two separate parks so I used my pigtail. I will get the 30amp surge protector and use it in line from pigtail to my rv if I am using the 50 to 30 pigtail. Thanks all for the help.
