This is such a newbie question I hate to even ask it...
Why do folks make a storage spot for their sewer hose and not use the rear bumper? I see so many post about "look at what I did" and I guess Im not understanding why its needed.
Thanks in advance!

Many sewer hoses have been lost due to the cap coming off the bumper, also yellow Jackets like to nest in the end cap (the hole makes perfect entry). I'm sure folks will have a better answer then mine.

Some of the RV's out here don't have the right type of bumper to use for a hose storage. Solera for one has a flat bumper, but the Solera also has very little space available to mount any kind of hose storage.

For me, the connectors on the Rhino Flex hose will not fit in my bumper.

Some components such as clear angles or dump tank adapter will not fit in bumper. We use a sealed plastic tote for all of it. Simple to periodically sanitize with a little bleach and water.

My bumper came with a chrome decorative piece and they used very long screws to mount it so you couldn't get a hose in the bumper anyway. I've tried taking the screws out but I can't budge them so I just throw them in a plastic tote box. Also witht the trapped water rust can become a problem.

You'll understand why :
#1 when you see RUST coming out both ends of your metal bumper.
#2 The hose sliding on the metal rubs through and your dump hose leaks.

Never gave thought to the rust and tearing the plastic, I knew folks would have better answers then mine. One more project to take on making a holder for my black hose.

I've carried my hoses for years in the bumper never lost one and never had one leak. Yes I buy new ones every so often as nothing will last forever. Bought new end caps guaranteed to not fall out. Had them in for a year now still there. Later RJD

I secured my cap ends with a metal leash, and stuffed the caps with brillo pad to keep out critters. If it rusts, oh well, c'est la guerre.

Exact same reason for me. The Rhino doesn't fit in a 4x4 bumper, but it does in a 5x5 fence post.
Yes, I could have just put it in a tote instead, but space is limited in a TT so this also frees up storage for other things, like the power cable, fresh water hose, etc...

I use the bumper to store my fold-able ladder. Fits perfect in the bumper.

Something I have done to get my Rhino hose to fit in the 4X4 bumper is grind a 1/4 " off the four tabs at the hose connections , this allows it to fit in bumper.

C.B.[/QUOTE,
Never seen it as much of a problem. After several years of bumper storage very, very little rust noted.
Best to use a wrap or two of elect tape so as to keep the end caps in place.

I've used my bumper to store my sewer hose for five years without issue. No, the elbow does not fit, I just leave that in a plastic bag in the truck bed.
I have however witnessesd a sewer hose or two, along a roadway which I assume may have wiggled out of a bumper ?
No rust issues or holes in my sewer hose from bumper storage!
