What I was looking at would work, but two brackets would need to be made and that does not seam to be doable for you. I have a local fabrication shop to make what I would need.

How those ratchets are bolted on, a flat plate with a welded tube on one end and two holes drilled with the winches I told you about bolted to the plates then bolted in place of the ratchets.

Did you look up the winches I told you about? If you have a friend coming over, he should be able to show how to get tight without too much fuss. If I could look at and measure the existing mount, then I could make up a drawing with how it could be done. Let me know how you make out.

The strap that goes around the tire crossways is not low enough. It should be about 1/3 the way down the tire.

I have been following your post as I have been wanting to buy a tow dolly. I have used a tow dolly several times but still feel I can use a refresher course in towing.
I pulled up google and typed in {using straps on a tow dolly} and it brought up a number of youtube video's that different people explain how to use tow dolly and getting the straps right.
First hand experience is great, when all else fails google it.
As far is not getting the ratchets tight enough I have a ratchet on a strap that I use to secure loads in my truck and I have used a pair of vice grips clamped to the handle of the ratchet to extend the stroke of the ratchet to make it easier to pull down on the load.
I'll be watching to see how you handle this. Good luck!

We have the same dolly but my straps are different. I don't have the buckle that you have.

One thing that I am surprised no one has said is you have to retighten after a couple miles. I will drive for 2-3 miles (sometimes just 1 mile around our development) and then stop and retighten. It will always be loose when I do this. After the retightening, it stays tight. Do you or your husband do this? If not, that is probably the issue.

Another question, is it loose just on one side. If I don't get the straps on correctly, the hook side can be loose even though the ratchet side is tight as crap. You won't ever get it tight until you adjust the hook side. The hook side needs to be fairly tight at the start and then complete the process.
