Towing with a Blue Ox tow bar
Thinking of buying a Blue ox tow bar to hook up a 2010 suzuki sx4
its low to the ground and I will be hooking it up to my 2014 Forest river Class C motorhome 3051S 32 ft long
should the bar be level when connected ? and towing a vehicle

I think they suggest 2" up or down from level.

I just watched a Blue Ox video about towing and it was stated that for "optimum 100% effectiveness" the vehicle towed should be level. Of course, for an additional purchase you can buy a "leveler adapter" in a wide variety of up and down inches.

 This is how we traveled to Whitehorse and on to Alaska. Keep the two vehicles as level as possible ( + / - 2 " works fine with no apparent stress on the toad ).

I used a blue ox for 3 years with an 8" drop bar. Wasn't perfectly level but within 2 inches. Worked great. Kept it thinking we might go back to a large MH instead of the 5er. Never any problems with it.

We tow a Jeep Wrangler behind a Sunseeker 3010DS using Blue Ox equipment and could not be happier. Our installer recommended a Brake Buddy instead of the Blue Ox Patriot and that has worked out well as well. The Jeep lines up well with our Sunseeker. Have never met a person using Blue Ox that had any problems at all!

When we had our Pioneer Blue Ox was what we used. Hubby was really happy with the bars.

I tow a lot and have gone through 7 in 5 years. They just wear out! They get very sloppy. Yes they are nice for hooking up but for me they don't last. They have a policy where they give you $150 off a new one when your old one wears out so they know there are isdues. I finally went to a machine shop and got one custom made.

I would recommend the bar tilt up a little. the MH end slightly higher than the Toad end.
This way when you stop, it forces the front of the toad down, which will improve the effectiveness of the toad brakes.
If you have the Toad end higher, the toad tends catapult itself upward and the toad brakes become less effective.

I couldn't DISAGREE more. Towed with 2 different Blue Ox bars and 3 different vehicle plates for 20 years behind 3 different DP'ers. NEVER had a single issue with the Blue OX equipment in all those years. Also used the Blue Ox Patriot brake system on our last Pusher with great results!

Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!! I towed over 100,000 miles during my 20 years and only changed to a new Blue Ox as I wanted the lighter aluminum unit.

I've towed 5-6000 miles with my BlueOx tow bar and really like it.

I have towed a jeep with the blue ox bar for 8 years now. Never a single issue. Great product! We have always towed level or slightly high, within an inch or two.

I tow over 100,000 miles a year. Have been for the past 11 years. I have gone through 7 of them. My custom made one is as good as the day I bought it. I also use a brake buddy. Dan's hitch world in Elkhart will steer you away from Blu Ox and Dually Depot in Elkhart doesn't even handle them anymore, but they will special order if you like. But if they work for you that's great. I push them to the limit as I pull a 1 ton dually. Truck weights 8500 and Ox is rated for 10,000. They don't Last under extreme usage but I suppose they are OK for the average user.

Just sighed relief reading this thread. We bought the new Wrangler Sport because it is a high riding vehicle, and light enough to tow behind our 22' MH. This afternoon I'm taking the Wrangler to our local RV mechanic to install the Blue Ox hitch, then tomorrow bring the MH up there for it's part of the install. Yes, I am nervous!
