Travel trailer lock recall

I happen to have look at the website for the FIC key and company who supplied door looks for forest river products. They have a recall on all door locks made from 1/1/2006 to 4/30/2013. Seems as though if you remove the key from the deadbolt lock in the 9 o'clock position it can lock
You inside and jam where you can't get out the offer a fix. The NHTSA recall # is 13E039. Company's web site lists the key numbers that are affected their web site is. Www. Fastecindustrial. Com. I found out because I had another problem with the lock

Thanks Mine was on there, I hadn't heard of it, a little surprised since we are the original owners and the recall is dated sept 2013. I had noticed our locks doing this but being our first TT I thought it was the way the locks worked.

Ours was on the recall, but we never bothered replacing it. Both DW and I are aware of the recall so we make sure we don't lock it that way. Besides, we almost never lock it when people are in it.

I replaced mine early in the recall. At that time it was quicker to call after you filled out the online form. Only took about a week at that time. They will send you a master key for removal and the new cylinder. You will return the master key and your old cylinder(s). in a prepaid envelope. Call if it's been awhile since you registered, but I heard they are swamped with requests right now. Be patient, but for safety sake DO replace them!

The other night I heard pounding next to my RV at midnight. Looked out to see the neighbor beating on his RV door. He was trying to break in his RV. His deadbolt was jammed. He finally we thru the fire escape window to get into the camper. He had to remove the inside lock cover and then beat the lock assembly out of the door. What a mess!!!!! Until you get the new lock, just use the top key..

You sure it was the same issue as this recall? I can remove my key in the 'jammed' position and then put it back into unlock it. All it does on mine is jam the inside knob. From the outside, it behaves the same as if I lock it right or wrong.

I had the malfunctioning locks but went a different route changed both my door handle/lock unit and replaced it with one that used a double sided key because there are too many units with the same key. Also changed the compartment locks because everybody has the same key for all the compartment locks, I had them keyed the same as the doors so one key opens all.

I'm not sure what really jammed. They had already hammered in the key tumbler and started on the deadbolt. But something went wrong.

You say you replaced the compartment locks? I'd like to know more about that. Our Forest River is new, and I find the compartment locks to be junk. Can't easily lock or unlock them. The key turns and turns. We've had them fly open while driving. I'd be interested in something higher quality.

I called and gave them my key number and the VIN # of my camper. I received the new keys and tumblers in about 5 days. Easy to replace

News to me too and mine is on there. I just noticed the company letter on the nhtsa site addressing their customers (Forest River):

"Please note that we are not yet contacting individual consumers. And, we ask that you not do so at this time"

Then go on to say:

"If you have a mailing list of end-consumers that have a potentially affected lock in their possession, please let us know. With your permission, we would be happy to notify end consumers end consumers that you can identify by direct mail."

No wonder not many ever heard about this recall. What a load

Is just like the Dometec 300 toilet, how many here had a bad one and got a letter or notice of a recall?

During my PDI the tech pointed out not to take out the key in the 9 o'clock position. That was over 2 years ago.
