Unclog a kitchen sink (MacGyver style)

What do you when your sink clogs and you don't have a plunger? I mean... seriously, how many people pack a plunger with them?

Grab an empty water bottle! The neck fits nicely in just about any RV sink. Stick the neck in the drain and squoosh the bottle flat with one quick motion. The blast of air will clear the clog in a jiffy. If you have a double kitchen sink that's clogged (like I did), make sure you put the stopper on the other side.

I have placed a screen strainer in my sink drain to keep food particles from going down the pipe. This is partly to avoid clogs but mostly to avoid spoiling food in my gray water tank. I know that sounds anal but hey I've got a 2016 RV for the first time in my life it's almost new!

X2 on the strainers in the sink drains (according to my DW).
McGyver water bottle trick is amusing, to say the least

I agree with you on the strainer for the sink. Camp in 110* for a week and you will find out real quick that the bacteria in the grey tank can give off worse odor than the black tank in no time at all. We add the same toilet chemicals to the grey tank as we do the black just in smaller amounts.
I like the bottle trick...seem to always have an empty water bottle around.

Red face clogged sink

Had a clogged sink and all I needed was some pooring some boiling water down the drain, as over time some grease had begun to coat the drains. We had RV'er next to us who had tried many things and when she tried the boiling hot water her problem was solved. It might be worth a try of the bottle doesn't open it

Cowracer, can you post a picture of your first attempt before you blocked the other sink?
