We have a 6Gal elec/gas tank also the same issue. We are thinking of replacing or adding a tankless heater. Anyone done this? I would like some advise/input. Thanks

I think youd be better served with a 10 gas dsi if you have the room.

Now in my last tt we had a 6 gallon wh for 7 people and made it work just fine.

Two adults and 5 children ages 17 , 16 ,15 , 13 , 11

So believe in me that you can make a 6 gallon work with due diligence and showers spaced out, as well as using gas and electric at the same time for faster recovery.

Are you heating with both electric and gas? Both together reheats the water pretty fast.

You can also replace the 2 hi limit switches with 140° switches which allows you to use more cold water in the mix therefore less hot water. We did it and it does work much better. Also use both 110 and propane to get faster recovery.

On the other hand, running out of hot water taught my DW to shower faster. Only took about 4-5 years but she's in and out in 5-8 minutes now. LOL

Years ago, my wife's 16 yo niece came to live with us and would spend a min of 45 minutes to 1 hr in the shower twice a day. We had a 50 gal wh and it would keep up, but after telling her numerous times she was wasting water, after about a month, I told her this is the last time Heather and her reply was "oh uncle Neil don't be such an old fuddy duddy." I went down in the basement and turned the hot water off. She came out screaming, but after telling her it would happen again after 15 minutes max., she finally got the message. TOWTA was not very happy with me, but it passed. LOL

MS Amy' s dad put a 5 minute timer on when his three girls showered.
5 minutes and one second and the hot water was shut off.
Heard this story last weekend.

I take a shower during commercial breaks on tv.
3 minutes 30 seconds.

HILARIOUS story OC!

Guess we got lucky - our DS & DD were brought up camping and learned ALL about running out of HW That learning transfered back to home showers - DS is out in 5 min and DD takes "Extra Long" showers at @ 7 Min

our unit came with the tankless and after multiple issues and many calls to girard I finally got it working flawless, ever time hot is selected hot comes out, don't think I would go back to a tank ever
