Water Filter Question

Just back from a two week trip. We de-winterized at our first stop and put in a new water filter cartridge. Before leaving our last stop we drained our system. We won't be traveling again for a month or so and didn't want to leave a wet filter in what would become a very hot rig. I removed the filter and placed it in the freezer in a plastic bag. Good move or should I have done something else? Thanks for any insight.

Under normal conditions I just leave the water filter cartridge in for the entire season.

Don't know that freezing is necessary...we simply put ours in the fridge.
