Water Pump Usage

Last week we stayed in a very nice state park that had electric only. We had plenty of fresh water in our tank for usage for the two days there. Should I leave the water pump switch turned on all the time or only turn it on as needed? I can hear it punp up the pressure every once in a while and did not know if I should turn the switch to the pump off when we are not using the water or just at night or if it does not matter. Thanks.

No problem leaving it on all the time if you are not conserving battery power. But I definitely turn it off at night, as it always seems to come on just when I am drifting off!

How often is "once in a while"?

If your water pump is cycling on and off two often it could be an indication of a leak in your water lines or a bad or stuck check valve.

My pump was cycling every 20 to 30 minutes - it turned out to be a loose hose clamp on one of water lines.

Hi Barney1: The pump would only go off when we used a faucet or shower to pump up the lines. I just did not know if it would be ok to leave the switch on all day if we are hooked up to electric and have plenty of fresh water. i am new to rving and did not want to cause an issue by leaving it on all day.

pump cycling with no usage sometimes means theres air in the water heater .

I think it is actually a good idea. If it cycles a lot, then you know you have a leak and should get it checked.

Once I am set up and camping I rarely ever turn mine off. I would say the amp draw unless the pump is actually running has to be next to nothing and wouldn't be worried about it.

Never saw a leak in our TT, yet the pump will cycle every 10 mins or less.

If it's cycling like that, you have a leak! The leak may only be thru the check-valve within the pump back to the pump input, but it's still a leak.
