What's your set up routine?

We pull up to the site, DW jumps out and goes to the electricity post. She is watching to make sure I go back far enough and there is room for the slide out.when I stop I check side to side level that's over the pin (5er). Pull forward a bit to lay down what's needed to get level, back up, chock drivers side trailer tires, hook up electricity, unhook from truck, level front to back. DW puts out slides, I hook up water, turn on water heater, put down rear stabilizers, check fridge is ok, get two chairs, two beers my lovely wife and say, "damn, I got it good." Everything else gets done in time.

I just joined the Forest River Forum, but have been on the road for two years. It has been wonderful without too many issues for a beginner, but learning fast. I enjoy these posts. Yes Tin can sailor.

1. Back into site.
2. Get out checklist notebook.
3. DO EXACTLY WHAT THE CHECKLISTS SAYS. IN THE ORDER IT SAYS TO DO IT.
4. Make sandwiches.
5. Nap.

And leaving is pretty much the above in reverse order.
I used to have a word doc of the checklist on another computer but that machine died long ago...

If I'm truly done driving for the day, the beer gets moved into the 2nd spot and all others moved down.

I am a little OCD on set-up and take down according to my DW.

When we arrive I walk the site first to see if this is level and or do I need to put boards out for the tires for leveling the trailer side to side.

I than back-up the vehicle and trailer or pull thru depending on the site we have.

She is positioning me as we park the trailer in the proper spot. Insuring that the water, sewer lines and electric cable will reach the proper spot for hook-up. She also checks to make sure slides and awning will clear all obstacle when extended.

I will than drop front legs and install x-chocks between the tires. I will than un-hitch the truck from the trailer; if we stay for more than a day.

I will then check the power pedestal for proper voltage and amperage. Then the power cable is attached with the surge protector installed at pedestal and attached to camper.

The 6-point level system will then be activated first, with the slides being extended after the legs are down. I will then finish up install the water and sewer lines.

I posted my routine in another thread last year:

3) Unhook from truck, level front to back.
4) Install X-chocks
5) Put out slide
6) Reconfirm everything level, tweak as necessary
7) Put down stabilizers
8) Hookup power, water, sewer.
9) Turn on HW
10) Put out awning, outdoor carpet, get out camp chairs.
11) Relax with cold brew.

Usual method

1) Screw it, it's level enough, chock with wedges
2) Unhook from truck, get front to back close enough.
3) Put out slide so DW can get kids ready for bed.
4) Hook up power/ water so kids can get ready for bed.
5) Pull out chairs, carpet etc... so bunk can be folded down so kids can go to bed. Chairs get dumped in a pile.
6) put down stabilizers in response to DW complaining the trailers too shaky. Stabs throw level off even further but slows down shake.
7) run and hide from wife on backside of trailer doing "that dang outdoor stuff." I.e. The rest of the hookups.
8) Install X-chocks cramped under slide out in the dark, and of course in the mud puddle, though it's been a drought for 3 weeks.
9) go inside, go to bed.
10) get up from bed, go back outside and turn on HW.
11) take dog for walk "since I'm up anyways" though I'd rather just crawl back into bed.
12) crash in bed
13) get up in morning and fix it all.

Pretty much still the same routine, only now it's 2 dogs instead of just the one.

After TOWTA ok'd the placement, the first thing I do is plug in and verify electric is good. No need to drag out anymore than that if power is not up to par. After that it gets unhooked and I finish sewer, water as the auto level takes over. Finish with slides and chairs, done deal. All takes about 6-7 minutes.

I can only add a couple things to the previous posts....

1) After we arrive at the site and pick the best place to sit the TT (if its a back-in site), and before worrying about getting perfectly leveled, I would take a minute to check the electrical outlet at the post. No sense going through the whole routine only to find out there's a problem with the electrical hookup. DW refuses to camp without electrical hookup so it better be working!

2) My 3 DSs are between 15 and 20, so they all have a few jobs they are responsible for during setup and tear down. Makes it a lot faster.

It's also good to check to see where the sewer drain is...sometimes it's 20-feet or more from the power connection which can make a one have to move the whole trailer so that your stupid sewer hose will reach.

(Not that I may or may not have actually done that...more than once or twice!)

Get this and your setup will be even faster!

http://www.amazon.com/Andersen-3604-...dersen+leveler

These babies hit the forums early last camping season and they are AWESOME! I have a level on our 5er Pin as well so leveling is dead easy now!

Caveat: some folks rigs have closely spaced axels and the Andersen's have to be cut down in order to fit between the tires (east to do if you have access to a band saw)

X2 - we keep our Progressive Power Management in the truck with us and once on site, 6 Actual makes a beeline to the power pedestal, plugs in the PM and gets immediate feedback that not only is there power but it is CLEAN power
