Where to buy small TV

We just bought our firs travel trailer and would like to install a TV. Based on the small size of the trailer and where all the electrical and cable hook-ups are located in the ceiling, I can get somewhere between a 14" and 16" diagonal flat screen. I've looked at Amazon, Walmart, NewEgg, etc. and there are not many to choose from. Only brands I have never heard of like Naxa and Supersonic. Where can I find a name-brand small TV?

The Best Buy Insignia brand TV has a 12vdc wall wart so it is real easy to run them off your battery! No inverter or generator needed to watch TV at night. I bought a 24" model with a DVD player built in. Plus the price is reasonable.

I have had excellent luck with Insignia from Best Buy in my TT and at home.

The guys in the blue shirts also indicated to me on more than one occasion, the 'guts' of the Insignia TVs were either LG or Panasonic and Insignia was just Best Buy's branding.

ALSO - When your shopping, consider a TV that will operate on 12 volts, You can then wire it directly to your battery and no need for shore power or an inverter.

I would strongly recommend actually viewing the tv before buying it. We bought a small tv for our last RV it was great as long as the viewing angle was straight on. Once you got more than about 20degrees, the picture was almost impossible to see. Many small ( especially no name ) tv's use low quality displays. Most RV's do not have many straight on viewing positions.

My experience with Insignia TV's (if you check where they are made) come out of "no-name" Chinese factories, not the same factories that manufacture brand name TV's.

Supplementing Flybob's comments, also listen for sound quality/volume. With some of the smaller, cheaper TV's, the audio capability seems to be an afterthought. We bought one for our old RV that you could barely hear at full volume if seated 8 feet away.

They may have changed since the last time I bought one but I had two Insignia "tube" TVs probably 10 years ago or so and both of them had problems. One of them had a green tint on the screen and the other had a red tint. I've sworn off of them ever since.

Agreed. We have a small no-name TV in our bedroom that my wife got for free through her work that has that problem. We don't watch it all that often so it's not a huge deal but it does bother me sometimes.

X2 on the angle. I have a smaller tv in the bedroom that is hard to see even with a mount that will angle down. I had to put a wedge under the mount to make it tip farther. It solved the problem but viewing before purchase is the secret.

I found LG's overall measurements were smaller than other brands which allowed us to replace a 20" with a 22" LG 1080p LED.
I like Visio, but not the small ones as they have a very narrow top to bottom viewing angle.
If you need something smaller than 22" take a look at computer monitor / TV combo sets, they have higher resolution than straight TV. Costco has a few.

NONE of the major traditional TV makers makes a set in that size range. Everything is outsourced to China or Taiwan. Brands you may be familiar with that are still used on TV's but which do not manufacture them anymore include:
RCA, Proscan, Sharp, Toshiba, Sanyo, Emerson

People who still make sets under their own brand include Samsung, LG, Sony, Panasonic, Philips

Biggest MFR. you don't know: TCL out of China...owns RCA brand...now marketing their own here. 3rd largest TV mfr. in the world.

My advice for small sets...get a model that you like and has the features you need for the RV.

For big sets...LG & Samsung have the most advanced sets which is not to say that the others are bad. Vizio would be my choice today for a reliable set at a price lower than the big guys... but not the cheapest on the block.

Most cheap tv have terrible sound. Try sound and picture. Buy from place that will take it back if you don't like it

I bought a Samsung Led and a Panasonic Blue Ray player from Costco for our TT. When not in use, we store them in the original cartons under the bed. We'll set them up when we get to a location but honestly, we're so tired from the day's events, that we usually just crash at night.
