Gas grill, I can tap into my trailer supply if need be, works well because I also use a gas lamp and stove.

I wish my Large Big Green Egg could come with me on trips.....

I'm a lump charcoal chef, but I think I'll have to go propane on the RV for the DW. Propane is darn simple......

I too use charcoal when camping! Best way to grille in my opinion. For quick overnite stops i use the propane table tip grille. At home i use a propane grille, if it were up to me i would have charcoal! The wife doesn't want a charcoal grille at home because it takes to long for her to get it going, funny thing is she never uses the grille at all! Maybe the next grille will be a combo charcoal/lp!

That's what my grill is. The combo grill but I added the smoker side to it. I got it because at first the wife didn't like charcoal but she has come around to it and now the gas side is rarely used.

I never use starting fluid to light it either I use a charcoal chimney to get everything going. It works well for me and gives it a really nice smokey flavor. If I am smoking a brisket all day I will continue adding wood chunks throughout the day and charcoal as needed just to keep the heat up.
Thanks for the info. I will try it the next time I cook ribs. Got to be cheaper than just charcoal. I used about half of a big bag at the beach when I smoked ribs for 6 hours.

My Traeger pellet grill smokes and or grills all day for pennies. The new portable model fits in the rig or tv.

I use the gas grill at home, but like to use charcoal when camping. I carry both a small Weber charcoal grill as well as a propane grill, but tend to only use the propane grill when in a hurry.

Charcoal with mesquite chunks mixed in for a smoked flavor.

My ash tray and grate are starting to show wear, buying new ones online is not worth it due to shipping costs. I use mine at home too, maybe time for a new one.

I will say- we grill on gas year round at home (wife mostly cooks). In my opinion, it doesn't hold a candle to the taste of the same food cooked over charcoal or wood.

Wood pellet grill/smoker here. I have a large one for home use and a smaller one I use for camping. Wood pellets add more flavor to your cooks and you never have to worry about drying out your meat from flare ups. The grills works like a convection oven, no direct flame to worry about. I cook bacon, pizza, meatloaf and many other things that you would need the fire department on standby if you were to try using a charcoal or gas grill. No squirting water on flare ups for me. I have been using them for the past eight years, hard for me to enjoy barbecue any other way. By the way the pellets come in many different flavors mesquite, hickory, maple, cherry, apple, alder and a few others...Nice thing they double as smokers too. I have smoked tri tips, babyback ribs and other things while camping...I have also made quite a few new friends when they smell those pellets while smoking and come over to check out the grill...

Didn't know Traeger makes a portable model. Going to have to check this out. We bought an outdoor pellet boiler for the house to replace our oil fired boiler 2 years ago. The dealer also sells Traeger grills. They had a customer appreciation day and cooked out on a couple of them. Man are they nice! Love the hickory pellets. Since I already have 2 large grills at home and 2 for the camper, DW seems think I'm at my limit, but I would love to add a Traeger. Auto feed on the pellets, plus the automatic fan control to hold temp - makes it so easy to control temp, which is what lets you get perfect bbq every time. One of these days...

Charcoal home and camping. We have a very expensive gas grill, but seem to always use the 25 year old weber

Take those other grills and set them out by the curb! i just gave mine away...I use a Traeger Jr with a tailgating kit mounted to it for our camp use. The new portable ones (PTG) have too small of a cooking space for my needs. The Jr is perfect...

It's been a long time since I used charcoal to cook, but my memory tells me that I used gallons of fuel to get those briquets going. Stack the briquets, drench with oil, stand back and strike a match. Poof, sindged hair and eyebrows, watch the fire and let those coals heat up. Patience was never a virtue of mine, so the steaks would hit the grill, flip them over a few times and sit down to a nice flavour of angus beef with a hint of fuel taste all savoured with a glass of wine ( or beer). Sit back, rub my belly and look over at the coals and always make this statement. "the coals are just right now for a bbq". Propane for me all the way now.
