who uses a volt ohm meter
it seems like many times now
when wishing to help ones on this site
I recommend them getting a volt ohm meter
I found out years ago with an old motor home we had
to see exactly what those batteries are doing
nothing beats this fine tool
and these days one can buy one for next to nothing
starting at under 10 dollars
I bought a small solar unit years back
so as to put a little charge on the 6 volts during the daytime
after checking what was really going on with the meter
I found out that I was wasting my time
should have bought a much bigger solar unit
I would have never known without the meter
when I want to know exactly what is or is not charging
or if an outlet is working etc. etc.
this is the proper tool for fast results
who out there would not wish to leave home without theirs ?

Most people don't know how to use one properly. Especially the old analog needle style. The digital ones aren't 10 bucks now are they? I have a couple of Fluke models that are 20+ years old and still work great. I was a traveling service tech in a former life.
I even know what a Wiggy is AND how to use it. Does that qualify me as old enough to own an RV? LOL All kidding aside, a VOM is a great tool to have with your RV. Picture of a vintage Square D Wiggy below.

I suggest a multi meter as well.
These are the 2 items that I carry at all times in my camper.
Snap on multi meter and a fluke amp clamp meter. Ac/scale

With 37 years of industrial maintenance behind me I've got meters!
Harbor Freight runs ads in our Sunday funnies newspaper and every once
in a while they have a coupon for a FREE meter.
Sure it's cheap from China but it works.
You can check battery voltage, check a fuse, check an outlet.
It probably doesn't have amps capability but you can't complain about the
price. No RV should leave home without a meter of some sort--
AND an assortment pack of spare fuses.

I have 2 in the camper alone (the HF free one one inside in the "tool drawer" and the big one in the tool caddy). I use them so often I would not roll the camper without them.

We departed AR 2/27 in route for FL and because we decided to leave 3 days earlier things got crazy and the DVOM is still on the workbench. So had to buy one at Wally World. We used the Simpson in the AF but when the Flukes came out that's all I ever bought for the HS auto shop. Actually to demonstrate how tuff the Fluke 73 was I would finish my demo then toss it on the floor a few times and in 25 years of tossing and hard use it never broke. If you dropped an analog once it's probably done. Also the analog was difficult to get down to the 1/10 of a volt.

I use one alot during the day it's a fluke 87 And keep one in the tool box in the FW for emergency's its a inexpensive digital purchased from Sears. Good tool to have with you away on trips. I carry a basic set of tools in the camper for trips never know what may happen little things come up.

I own two Flukes, a 23 from my days in the HVAC industry that is older that I care to remember. And a Fluke 85-3 from my time working on industrial robots and CNC machines. Like my American Express, I never leave home without one.

They are identical 7 Function Multimeter. I would never have thought Amazon would sell the identical one.
