I downloaded the Mobile internet Handbook 2015 edition for my Kindle. Not a bad price at $6.99. Just starting to digest it.

I think I will just use a router hooked with Ethernet cable to my laptop and use a hi-gain external antenna for the time being and if needed add a bi-directional amplifier. A router will also offer a safety factor with encryption. I've got several routers that I am not using so I can pick and choose.
BooBoo, do you know why it seems to be looking for a needle in a hay stack, when your looking for a system, router and hi gain antenna, to boost your wifi signal having an android o/s on a tablet. Seems to me since tablet sales have outpaced laptops, you would think there would be equipment for that application.

Do you have any expierence in this area. Thanks

Good write-up for DIY WIFI Repeater:
diy-wifi-booster

First camping trip this year I was able to test out my new WIFI setup. Could not connect directly from my laptop.

Linksys WRT54G flashed with DD-WRT
SUNHANS 2 Watt 2.4 Ghz Booster with 6dbi attached antenna

This allows for multiple devices to be connect to WIFI. All I have to do is connect to my router and scan for available WIFI and connect. After that all devices can connect to internet via my repeater. No changes to devices.

Plans to add external antenna for better signal.

I am putting a Ubiquiti Bullet on my Roof, and a Wireless Access Point inside the camper. Hope the high powered radio and high gain antenna will be a good match.

I have long since given up trying to get Wifi out in public. Usually the coverage is spotty, and there are so many users that its slower than molasses in january.

I am grandfathered in on AT&T's unlimited Data Plan. I use FoxFi to tether my phone to my laptop. Works great, even underway.

That is the best i've seen on the subject. Sure would be nice if someone in FR who is more sauve than I, tries it out and see what results they get. I'd need a little hand holding I think to get that up and running
