Window prop

We have two windows in our TT that are hinged at the top and have a hold open rod that only lets them be open about 8". Today I made a pair of longer window props that will let them open "all the way". This is an interim prop to see if it helps get more air in the TT and if it works I will likely make something more elaborate. The current version is just a 32" piece of 1/2" PVC with a notch in one end that grabs the frame around the window.

Just thought I'd share and also see if anyone else had come up with something clever to do the same thing.

good idea should would increase ventilation, if the hold open rods are not attached at the top and bottom is a strong gust of wind has a much greater sail area to affect with the window open that far and may lift it causing to it to slam back down, the affected sail area is lessened with the window at more of an angle. Just something to consider.

SeaDog - that's why this is a preliminary version and I was asking if others had done something more clever. I'm thinking I may fabricate some brackets that will let me put detent pull pins in so that it can't "get airborne". Driveway testing says the airflow is much better.

My interest would not be to open the window a whole bunch, but rather close it half way from the standard opening. My windows have a flat bar you push out until you reach the indent to hold the window open. But if I want to close the window half way there is nothing to hold the window. I have resorted to using double faced tape wrapped around the flat bar as a way to prevent the window closing completely. But the tape does come off at times. The reason I want to close the window is when it rains with a wind. Rain comes in when opened fully. Trying to prevent this. Any ideas other than my idea?

Just this last (hot) weekend I was lamenting that there wasn’t more airflow from those windows! I wondered why they didn’t put a magnet and have them function like the storage bay doors. I wonder if you could add something like that?

I don't remember who it was but here is what another member made for his windows. If your worried about the bottom slipping out of the slot just drill a hole in the tab for a hair-pin clip or a twist-tie.

Magnets did not work since the bars are aluminum.

Same as the storage doors. You would have to install one on the window frame and one on the side of the trailer.

I'll have to look into the magnets - thanks! I thought about the spring latch like our TT has for the storage doors but it would be so high I couldn't reach it. Magnets would solve that issue!

On some RV's the Emergency Exit window is made to drop out if it is opened past a certain point.

FYI, this type of window prop, only at one side or the other, not centered, was highly recommended by "Mac, the fire guy" in the event that type of window is your emergency exit.
That and throwing bedding over the bottom frame. That way the window doesn't ride your back and you don't slice yourself open sliding out belly down.

What about using a “spring loaded” curtain rod? They come in various lengths. We use one to hold up one of our window shades (after too many string adjustments). Got ours at Walmart.
