1984 rockwood roof won't stay up

The roof system is the spring lift system. After cranking it all the way up it falls down. There is no clicking noise while cranking up or down . Can someone please let me know what's going here?

I would check the rachet to see if the spring is on rachet lever.( in green on illustration) if you are getting the clicking sound but the camper roof is going down then i would check the friction plate and tension on it or to see that no oil has gone on it.
