2008 Forest River Flagstaff 625d

Hi everyone!

I am new to the site! Just found it today!

I like the Forest River lines and have been in the market for a POP for some time now.. I initially found a nice 228 MAC on ebay, but, the seller went back on their word to sell it to me and wanted me to instead bid on it. (Suspiciously enough, the only bidder was a "brand new" ebay member... )
I told her I was not going to bid on it after she told me that I could out buy it. So, I left that one alone.. After that, I found another good deal.. a 2008 625d for almost the same price! I'm currently talking to the owner now to work out an inspection of the trailer at a FR dealer.

This will be my first POP trailer after YEARS of tent camping! (I'm an Eagle Scout!)

What are some things I should look for in purchasing a used pop? Anything specific to the 625d?

Thanks all!

Welcome to the site...one tip I can give you when searching and buying any used camper, take your time and inspect thoroughly!
You don't want your first unit to be an ongoing repair project...have fun in your search

Hello,

Sorry about the seller backing out of the deal but I'm sure things will work out for the best in the end. Please do keep us updated.

Hopefully others will be by to offer feedback to your question.

Yes, I am having the trailer inspected by a Forest River Authorized dealership. I've contacted the two in his area. They provide that service and check everything.

Thanks!

I would think they will concentrate on mechanical items and the open and obvious stuff, ie rips in canvas, holes in beds etc.

Unfortunately that will not tell you if it leaks, or has had leaks in the past. After purchasing a used pop-up, one piece of advice I have, is set it up under an oscillating sprinkler dousing the roof, walls etc for 20 minutes or so, then check if it dry inside.

You can look for water damage in many places. When the roof is partially up, look up where the roof posts meat the roof, you can actually see some of the plywood roof material. I have seen those black with mushroom growing...not a good sign.

Thanks all!

The deal for the 625d fell through. The seller didn't want to drive it to an authorized dealer for inspection. The closest one for him was 2 hours away. So, I can't blame him. I didn't want to take the chance in purchasing my first pup without it being professionally inspected.

I'm looking at others now. I'll post when I find something good!

Keep the suggestions coming!

You did the right thing...If I was the seller and didn't have anything to hide and wanted to sell my camper...."road trip!"

I'd have to say I'm with the seller on this one. If I were selling my 625D, I wouldn't want to spend a whole day (2 hour there, inspection time, 2 hour back) just so the camper could get inspected unless you were willing to pay for his time (purchase or not).

You could have asked the dealer if you could pay one of the employees to go to the camper and inspect it. I think that would have been more reasonable.

Bottom line is...If the deal doesn't feel right (for any reason) don't do it.

Keep looking, you'll find a deal that is right for you.

I was willing to pay for his time. He still refused.

But yea, I think I found a solid 2011 176ltd. It's a good size for my family, my garage and my bank account!

I'm working the deal now. Hopefully this one pans out!

Make sure that you take time with the seller...let him/her show you EVERYTHING! Set it up completely, break it down! My first popup was a quick deal. When I got home, couldn't remember 1/2 the tricks that it took to get the camper deployed. My second, I bought from a dealer. He was like, you want to set it up??? So I spent 6 hours having him show me EVERYTHING.

Good luck!
