about to be a first time owner New vs. used

Hi,

I found a really well maintained 2006 Rockwood HW256 on craigslist. I also went to the dealer and looked at all the new models. For the life of me I cannot see any major improvement between the 2006 and 2013 model. Looks as if these were engineered well a long time ago and only minor features have been added.

I've concluded that I'd rather spend a few $$$ on upgrading and maintaining the 2006 than buy the much more expensive new model. For instance, I would like to replace the heated mattresses. It looks like most parts for the new models are interchangeable with the 2006 model. Is this true? If so, is there an online store where I could buy something like a new water pump or mattress? Any references would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Matt Fassiotto

Google search Surflo for RV water pumps
Search "electric RV mattress"
Also, repack/replace the wheel bearings, check the date codes on the tires - if they are more than 5 years old replace them
Carry extra fuses and light bulbs
Have the battery checked if there is one
Have Fun!

Also this is a great time to look at the used item as it's raining. The roof, slide out portion , and the canvas over one of the beds are in perfect shape. However, there is some wear (not a tear) on the canvas avoe one of the beds. How easy is it to patch a small part of the canvas?

Patching depends on your skills and whether or not you want a permanent fix.
The bunk end can be removed and a panel can be replaced.
