2014 rockwood freedom 1950.
I just bought a new popup camper and was just wondering if anyone has any comments or concerns about my model. I'm taking the family this weekend for the first time out of a tent. What should I do for first time use and also what upgrades should I get to make life easier in it. Have a standard half ton chevy. Thanks

Welcome to the Forums and congrats on your new Popup! - we started out in one and it is a BLAST with the kids!
What should you get soon?
Water pressure regulator
Water hose (white)
BAL Popup leveler
Bunk End Covers (will make it easy 10 deg cooler inside - I have a set for sale BTW LOL not sure it will fit yours though so PM if interested)
Everything else I bet you have from your tent camping days!

I agree on the bal leveler; great for leveling side-to-side and the bunk end covers; great for hot areas with direct sunlight. And under pine trees the take the bird dung and sap and easy to clean.
If connecting to power pedestals, I recommend a power power management system such as from Progressive industries. A surge protector only protects against a surge; whereas a power management system protects for low voltage (believe it cuts off everything under 105 volts).
And if for piece of mind while towing; tire pressure/temp monitors such as from TST or other companies allow you to keep an eye on those trailer tire pressures and internal air temps.

You probably need ONLY a 30 amp unit since most popups don't come with 50 amp service. The 30A units are less expensive.
You might also look at the hardwired units that do not require a lockbox.
Installed one of these in my unit earlier this year. Took maybe thirty minutes, including gathering the tools needed.

I don't know what they mean by "seasoning the ends". What I did to the canvas material on my PUP, years ago: I slathered the canvas with Scotchgaurd to protect it and make it water repellent. There may be better products out now. Only do the outside. After every trip, and we even do it to my TT now, give it a good bath and let it dry completely before folding it back down and storing. Never had a problem with mildew. It looked as good the day we sold it as the day we bought. Forget about sleeping late, you'll wake up as the campground wakes up!

with the vinyl canvas that is used these days, you do not have to treat it with anything. seasoning is simply hosing it down real good with water to allow the threads to swell and this seals the seams. allow to dry and I did a second round of hosing to ensure the canvas does not leak. nothing else should be needed. for washing the canvas, use oxiclean and laundry detergent.
to the OP, enjoy your first outing off the ground. we did the same thing, tented many years before getting the pup. loving every minute with the pup, but it be one steep learning curve.....
