Awning destroyed

First camper for me and first week out in it. I wondered why so many others had awning lower on one side now I know. Rained like hell and weighted down til main beam at front of awning broke in half. Where can I get a replacement. Dometic doesn't offer it.

A picture would help. Are you talking about the roller tube or the support arm?

i'm assuming that the OP has a popup, since he posted in the Popup section and does not have a traditional awning, like a Carefree unit.
they usually have a bag awning.

It's a bag type on a rock wood HW 296. All I need is the main beam.

If the beam is round, you can probably use a piece of electrical conduit pipe cut to the right length in the slot.I did that in one awhile back and it is still holding as far as I know.

Oh no...as a general rule, the awning stays closed during rain...only will open for a short time if BBQ'ing underneath it...and lean one said way down low for drainage.

Are you near Colorado Springs? My friend bought a used trailer to bring up to Alaska and he needed a new awning and a local, mobile RV Repair guy did a great job and it was only about $300. (Yours will be more but I'm betting this guy is quite a bit cheaper, and faster, than any dealer.)

Did the awning material tear? You may just be able to get the frame replaced or repaired and then good to go!!

No, they do not offer just that front piece. They do offer the whole left side pole set and the whole right side pole set. That front beam is actually those two sets connected together in the middle. And those sets are not cheap. So, you either get both sets, or a whole new awning. Btw, just about everyone has made this mistake or the mistake of not tying it down (and then finds the awning flipped onto the roof with a broken pole). I have the broken pole and a bent front beam when I didn't have the tilt deep enough . I lucked out and dumped the water before the beam broke and it is only slightly bent.

Us folks in popup land call this kind of mistake a SPUT(stupid popup trick)

Coloradorick, I didn't know it was a general rule to roll awning up for rain. They are such a pain to put away. I thought wind was the biggest problem for a awnings. At least that's what got mine last year. I only had it secured to the slots on the side of the camper. a wind came up while we were away, and when we returned it was on our roof. the good news was our poles and material were ok, but the bad news when we lowered our camper roof to leave we noticed a quarter size hole in the roof from the pole. Now we put the poles on the ground with spiral stakes. we use 4 of them. Also we keep one side lowered in case of rain.

As long as you are anchored well and the awning is taught, you should be fine with one side on the highest setting with the other on the lowest setting. The awnings are somewhat flimsy but with a little prep they can be stabilized.

When camping I use 12" metal stakes (camping nail) and supplement with rope tie downs if the ground is loose or rocky.
Every setup assumes the awning will flip over, so implement any and all steps to prevent that from happening and you'll be fine.

Cheers

Sorry

Sorry that happened. As was said, it is a SPUT.

I have never seen just the beam for sale. You might be able to just get some stock channel aluminum but I am not sure how the awning attaches. It might have a track in it that the awning attaches to. In that case, you might just need a whole new awning.

If my Domestic ever dies, I will be replacing it with a carefree of Colorado awning. I feel they make a better product. Not sure why Rockwood stopped using them.

Vin.
