Traded my pop up in last week but it had the dometic manual awning on it.
To deploy the awning unroll it and let it hang down. then pull the support poles out(they twist-lok) and on mine there were sockets on the side of my trailer that the black ball end snapped into. These are at a 45 degree angle to the trailer. Then the main poles that extend and lock with little buttons. These were the vertical supports and had 'D' rings on the bottom that can be staked down. The two sets of poles store in the outer edge of the awning. Hope this helps.

I use to have a Starcraft with the same system. Mine had two plastic clips that were on the side of the trailer. On the bottom of the poles that you have against the trailer there was a plastice cover that pulled off to expose a ball type that went into the plastic clip on the trailer. You may not have the plastic clip installed as they can break or they were not installed. I have attached a picture. You can see the plastic clips on the side of the trailer just below the canvas. They are black and partially covered with the canvas.

Wow looks like we have it! There's most likely "sockets" mounted on the top of the hardsides that were left off or broke off. The coleman experience was correct in poles to the ground, just a brand choice difference. Have it your way! Looks better on the camper and more functional, just no sockets provided on them. Happy Camping!

There are youtube videos with awning setup demonstrations that show locations of sockets.
