Those fiamma awnings are interesting but very heavy and expensive. The size I would want is 60lbs and here I was concerned with ones weighing 30 lbs when the current awnings are under 20 lbs. I see that they post a warning about being sure that your unit can support the weight. With that weight and expense, do not think this is in the cards for me.

I suppose this old style awning is not made any more....? This was our
1st pop up. Used- circa 1980. The awning didn't have a drum at all.
You and a friend just rolled it by hands and tied the resulting bundle with
straps that were on the roof end. As you can see poles were more like
tent poles but it worked for us.
And it was very light. The man we bought the trailer from said he got it
(the awning) from JC whitney.
I doubt it's still available but maybe someone still makes something like this?

Those are the current ones on the pup that are the "problem". The high wall pups, you can't roll them up easily if a storm rolls in while camping. The roof is very high.

And the awnings are 13' long so pretty heavy.

Actually Dan, the current ones are not much different than that. The major change was a rail to eliminate the center pole. They now only need the two end pols which fold in and store. We still roll it up by hand like a sleeping bag and then tie it up with cloth strips.

As Gal mentioned. The roof is quite high. I can reach mine as I carry a small ladder with me.

My old pop up had the Carefree of Colorado awning. I prefer that over the Domestic. It seemed to be stronger and more heavy duty. Which apparently the weights prove out. My current roof is essentially the same as the old one and that handled the weight of the Carefree just fine. I think the change to domestic could have easily been a cost cutting measure.
