Bike rack-front mount?

Hi. A bike mount question
Have HW296 pull w 2010 expedition. Want to carry 3 bikes (mtn).
Anyone tried/used a front of vehicle hitch mount?

Any cons?

I had a 2 inch receiver installed on the front of my F250. I have a steel platform and it holds the SO's trike as well as my folding 2 wheeler. I does look a little weird, but it sure works great.

Thanks Tom, yep figure it will look really weird but hey at least I will see if one falls off . Good to see your idea about a platform, not just a basic hanger.

I put a front mount on my Silverado mainly to haul bikes. It works fine, but, I suggest you find a bike rack that does not let the bikes extent much, if any, above the hood. I found it very distracting while driving. The cross bars on our bikes stuck up about 5 inches above the hood. I probably should have given it more time, but the bikes ended up in the pickup bed. I'm too cheap to buy another bike rack.

I purchased the Bike rack offered by Rockwood when I bought my HW. I think it is a "Pro-Rack" but not sure. It mounts to the front A frame of the trailer and will carry four bikes. The front mount has quick release mounts and the back wheels rest on the top edge of the pop up roof. Just another option for you to consider.

KZ - Thanks yes that would for sure be a problem, the Exp is not so large in the front to let 3 large bikes hang off without causing front end blockage, will have to measure that out.

Vin- yes the Pro Rack looks like a better rear mount solution, and still let's me get to the lift gate on the TV.

I have a Hitch-Haul platform from Camping World. It is a lot easier than lifting the 3-wheeler into the bed of the truck, over the 5th wheel hitch.

Since you have an Expedition- what about a rear vehicle rack that hangs off of the back of it? We did that with 2 adult bikes and 1 kid bike with our Durango when we had our Coleman popup.

It was my only option... Unfortunately there isn't any manufacturer that makes one for vans, so I found a guy to fabricate one for $75. I did put a hitch clamp to stop the whole thing from moving and it works very well. We have been very satisfied with it!

"Bodiak" hitches have been discussed on our forum several times. I saw one of these on a Chevy Silverado in the spring while at the Outer Banks. I really like the way it looks and mounts. Easy to install and easy to remove. Looks like they have one to fit your 2010 Expedition for about $240. Check'em out! Ford

I have a 2014 Flagstaff Mac 228d, bought a couple of weeks ago. I have been looking at ways to haul bikes. I really don't want to put anything on top of popup...I found this and seems to have great reviews! My tow vehicle is an Expedition...

I agree Biigdaddy, lot's of calculations will take place before I go this route. Anyways, I don't even have a bike due to my Specialized MB was stolen from my garage...ugh!!!!
