Bug covers for HW tank vents.

While I was poking around my camper this morning I was checking the vents for the grey and black tanks. I slid my fingers up into the black tank vent and felt the 1 1/2" hole opening and thought, "this is a nice place for insects". I went over to the Grey tank vent and that had some kind of cap over the hole. Either the black tank is missing it or they just do not put anything there because the back tank gases need more air flow. I cut a few pieces of screen to try to cover up the hole but do not feel it is that great. I think I want to take off the cover and then make a better screen that I can hold in place with the cover when I replace it.

Do the other HW owners have this same situation or am I missing a cover on the black tank vent?

Does anyone know anything about these vents? Do they all have covers inside them to keep bugs out?

Thanks,

Vin.

If you can place your finger down the 1-1/2 pipe with the cap on its NOT installed properly! I have not seen a Bug screen for these vents but you could make them, they make screens for all the other areas,Furnace,W/H,Refer ,ect. Youroo!!

That is the roof vent for a black tank. I have two side mounted vents also.
One has no cap over the hole at all and the other one has a cap over the opening.

vin

on my hw276 i have a vent on the (drfiver side) i believe that is straight to the gray tank then i have a vent on the (pass side) i believe that is for the sink both of my vents have a cap thing but not sure anything is behind that stopping and bugs from going into those vents but from my understanding most bugs like the sweet smell of propane and thats why they go it the heater vent, HWT and refridge vents. but im thinking next spring maybe cutting screen for behind the vent caps. i just hate breaking the factory chaulk seal.

Kinma. Did you put your fingers up under that outside cover? Or are you just saying that they are on the outside of the unit? When I slide my fingers up behind the cap, I feel a hose cap on the passenger side and nothing on the drivers side vent.

I am thinking I have a problem since it would seem to me that they should be the same and operate the same.

I have two also. One on passenger side and one on the driver side. They could both be grey vents then. One for shower and one for galley.

The sidewall vents have a round plastic grill over the hole.
