Damaged Roof

I am looking to buy our first camper. I found a 1999 Rockwood Freedom 1620 - has quite a few extras and the price is not hateful. Most importantly the price is something I can afford. BUT it has some roof damage. They person selling it has attempted to put silicone caulking on it to patch a few holes and seal up the cracks. I think most if it could be redone and sealed and recoated with no issues. My big concern is the side of the roof. It is cracked almost the the entire way down about 5-6 inches. Its also close to one of the roof supports. About 6 inches also. Any suggestions for fixing it. I thought about a thin piece of metal on each side and drawing them tight with some small bolts, then sealing and coating?? Thoughts suggestions?

Welcome to the forum.

I'm a pretty handy guy and just by your description my tires would be smoking the other direction.
The hidden water damage could cost you double or more to repair.
Mold
Structural damage
Etc etc

Run and run fast.

There's better deals unless this deal is free.

Thats the why I am kinda stuck. I could tell there was a little to the side close to the crack but the rest of the camper looked like it just rolled of the show room floor. The canvas even looked like it was put up for the first time. But the hidden possibilities do scare me a bit.

Best you can maybe do is ask to take it to a dealer and get an estimate .

They will give you a better idea.
It might cost you a hundy but well worth a $1000.00 mistake or more .

Your welcome !

Maybe it's s good deal buy be very very careful.

I truly think an impartial estimate would be the best . And at worst use the estimate in dealing with the asking price.
