DC Converter issues
Hello, we are new to the forum and have a 2006 Rockwood Freedom 1980. We started having some issues with the battery dying earlier this year and now the low voltage alarm goes off on every camping trip and the power lift dies implying the battery is completely draining. On first occurence, we replaced the battery thinking the battery was just old and needed replacing. Went camping, lift worked, all lights, fan, water pump, outlets worked while plugged in to shore power. Thought we were good to go...1.5 days in and the alarm goes off. So we limited use as much as possible but was already too late and power lift would not put the camper down.
Once home, we've been troubleshooting the following to see if we can understand what is going on. As I'm posting this, we have not yet fully confirmed the issue and are open to suggestions. What we've tried:
1. We checked ALL connections on the converter panel to make sure everything was grounded
2. Checked the fuse at the battery box (since this has blown in the past)
3. Checked the safety switch, seems to be okay although it's a bit shady
4. Unplugged the fridge completely as we thought maybe this was not operating correctly on the AC and was draining the DC. Plugged in to shore power, ran the lights, fan, etc and had same low voltage issue
5. When the unit is NOT plugged into shore power (and battery if charged) everything works except the outlets.
Our conclusion is that there is something wrong with the converter and it is not doing the job of converting the AC to DC power hence we run solely off of DC until the battery dies. We don't know if these converters are easily replaced or if there is a way to confirm it is really bad.
Any ideas, experience, suggestions are GREATLY appreciated as this is seriously taking away from our fun camping (manually lifting and lowering a power unit is NO fun) :-)
