Electric Brakes lock with battery issue

I have a 2010 Highwall camper. I'm having an issue with the brakes. With just the battery connected (pig tale disconnected) my brakes lock up. This also happens with the pigtail connected. Has anyone ever experienced this?

Sounds like the breakaway switch's pin is pulled out.

With zero electric hookup (battery or pigtail) I have no issue. I will lookup the breakaway switch pin. Thanks

If it is your breakaway switch (and it sounds like it is) take a look at it ASAP. With the switch pulled, it's sending full power to the brakes from your battery. You'll destroy that battery if you leave it like that for long. If nothing else, disconnect the battery posts until you can look at it.

Yep - your breakaway system is working as advertised. Once the circuit is broken, regardless of electrical source, the brakes get locked.

That may also explain why my battery dies so fast. I had to use a battery charge this weekend while camping

You may have damaged the brakes by letting this go so long, if a pulled pin is the problem.

Club, please consider what Dan is saying. Don't assume your brakes are good.

When leaving the yard one day I noticed my 5er was pulling hard. Checked my trailer tires and saw ruts in the grass from the tires. Checked pin and it was pulled. Had snagged the cable when hooking up and didn't realize it.

This is something we need to get in the habit of checking when pulling out. It is so easy to pull that pin and not realize it.

It is a great safety feature but can cause a lot of damage if pulled and left that way for long, destroy your brakes, tires and battery. Not to mention your gas mileage.

My breakaway pin somehow was pulled and don't know how long it had been that way. Was getting ready to pull out for my fist trip of the year and discovered the wheels were locked....ahh thats why my battery's were completely dead. I had read somewhere that when this happens it will fry the magnets and was thankful to find out they were still working (for now anyway).

Yes, you are right. They are electric magnets and can burn up. Something so simple but we do need to watch it.
